Accompanying my husband to oversea assignment

Hello,

 

My husband (US citizen) wll be PCSing soon to Japan and he is expected to be there for at least three years and maybe up to six years.

I have a green card (IR1 thus unconditional one).

Do I need to do anything special before leaving U.S such as reentry permit?

Or can I just leave and when I come back to the U.S., show the order from the military with both of our names on it?

Nope. 

Just notify the uscis about the change of address once you move.  If I remember right, there is a field there to check if you're on the government orders oversees. 

 

Oh and just a tip. Keep a copy of the marriage certificate with you when going on the plane. We were flying from the Baltimore and they didn't want to even give me tickets without seeing our marriage certificate. (Pcsed to Germany).

You probably know this already, but time spent overseas on US military service (or as the spouse of someone on US military service) is considered to be on US soil. 

 

You may also qualify for early naturalisation as the spouse of a US citizen on active service.
