Paying in $100.00 or $250.00 sounds pretty good. Means your taxes were withheld in the approximate right amount. People seem to be happy about large refunds. I never understand how people celebrate the fact that they loaned the government money for free. I rather keep and save my money throughout the year and earn interest on it. Only reason we got a larger than usual refund this year was the arrival of our baby girl last fall.

ITA. Getting over $1k back from the government means your withholdings are all screwed up and you've loaned the government your money...for free...and you don't earn a dime in interest on it. It's a total ripoff.

I had my returns in by Feb 2nd. A new record for me.

I normally would have, but I knew I owed money this year so was in no rush!

Not really, there are various tax breaks you can use to get refunds that you don't put in withholdings. For example paying for my wife's education expenses got me back a couple of thousand in the last few years.

Mailing out our $343 tonight grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Sucks when you get older and your tax deductions grow up and move away. Double misery, we owe the great state of Illinois $311.
