I made it. Taxes are done. I saw this turbotax ad on TV last night and I guess I was about as scared looking as the guy in the ad. Man, is it this time of year already again? I thought I have plenty of time and here we are in mid-April. Sucks, the older you get the faster time seems to move. Not fair.

The perils of my wife having a part time job I'm afraid, they didn't tax her enough.

AUGHHHHH finally done..

I did the free turbotax online..

for those that didnt know... "Free File allows taxpayers with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $52,000 or less in 2006 to e-file their federal tax returns for free. That means 70 percent of all taxpayers – 95 million taxpayers – can take advantage of the Free File program." LINK

Hard part is due to being self employed.. I have to work it out right... Meaning.. if I claim all the deductions I can.. I can show that I make such a low dollar amount.. augh .. but that wont help me with the sponsoring of my baby..

SOOOo I had to make it just right.. .. sad part this year.. if I made my AGI to the required amount for I130.. the 125%.. I would have had to pay close to $500 to state for taxes and get small refund via Fed of $65. well since I am no closer to him getting his papers done soon... I figured .. I could get it just slightly below the amount.. and make up the difference say .. a simply $1000 figure difference.. so if I did a K-3 and we married elsewhere as possibly thought.. then we would be able to use that figure phew... and just make up the difference in savings.. augh...

That refiguring.. ended up .. giving me a Fed refund of $592 and Owe the State only $241.... so I will put the monies earned via refund in account.. to show savings to add to the necessary amount of difference.

If I remember correctly... IF I dont have correct amount of the 125%.. it is now calculated of showing 3X the difference? is that correct? so there for if i am about $1000 short.. then i will need to have in account or asset wise .. $3000 ??

OK OK >.. too much mental calculation for the evening... NEED A BEER...

TAXES.. PHEW... .. who cares to join me in a Stella Artois.. ?? MMMMM

With the house and all, you should be able to get some help as far as taxes are concerned, If you pay points for the mortgages and the interest paid are all tax deductible. So go over and see if you haven't missed anything. Overpaid uncle sam so getting something back.

Yeah, we've just had the house since October...so no points *cries* but did have some interest. Sadly it wasn't enough, as little Jay had done her W4 wrong when first employed. Well, not wrong, per se - I put down an exemption each for me and Ben, and then he claimed about 1700 in unemployment last fall, sooo...that put us down the. Never mind - next year will be different :D

I had my returns in by Feb 2nd. A new record for me.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

You have till the 17th to hand them in!! mailed ours out Saturday. many post offices wil be open til midnight onthe 17th to receive ur taxes!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Paying in $100.00 or $250.00 sounds pretty good. Means your taxes were withheld in the approximate right amount. People seem to be happy about large refunds. I never understand how people celebrate the fact that they loaned the government money for free. I rather keep and save my money throughout the year and earn interest on it. Only reason we got a larger than usual refund this year was the arrival of our baby girl last fall.
