DS-160 is needed for everyone who applies for a K-1, doesn't matter if you're from Ghana or Canada.

The DS-160 is the application for the K-1 visa.

You said you haven't even started yet so I assume you're about to get reday to send the i-129f petition.

The K-1 application comes later on. It's the person applying for a K-1 that sends in the K-1 application (the DS-160) naturally, which s/he does once the i-129f petition has been approved.

Alrighty! Let me just see if I have this straight.

The DS-160 is being sent by her once we get approval from the USCIS? Or the US Embassy/Consulate. Will they tell us when to do the form (DS-160)?

And it's just sent by her, not me.

I'm getting all the paperwork together to send the I-129F forms (Which is the fee of 535 USD) to send to Lockbox Texas.

Does the DS-160 cost anything?

The US citizen petitions (the i-129f petition) for his fiancé so she is allowed to apply for a K-1 visa.

Once the US citizen's petition has been approved it will be sent to NVC where they give it a case number and then forward it to the embassy in the beneficiary's country.

When the embassy has received the approved petition they will contact the beneficiary. The beneficiary will then have to apply for the visa by submitting the visa application known as DS-160. The fee is $265.

Then the beneficiary has to have a medical done and schedule a date for the interview.

Anything after the NVC stage is country specific so I can't tell you how your specific embassy will contact the beneficiary etc.

You're welcome. My advice is to put full focus on the i-129f package right now, make sure you send everything needed etc. And once it has been sent and you have received the acceptance email and letter (called NOA1) you can focus on reading up on the rest of the process, so both you and your fiancée know what to expect, what is required of you and what you can prepare for the next step. There are plenty of Canadians on here who went through the same process.
