lol like I said I'm good with NB doing it to annoy and mess around with the MDL but I sure hope he(or anyone else for that matter) doesn't take it too seriously or they'd be in for one huge disappointment.

I'm not gonna read a wall of text like that but I understand most of what he says already, and I agree with him.

 

I don't consider S&P, NASDAQ, or Dow Jones as an indicator of how the country is doing economically, and I hardly trust other indicators like the CPI or Mⁿ.

 

This is where it really relies on gut feeling, for me. How the populace feels on a local level how much value their money has, how it buys essential products. It's pretty obvious for the last few decades prosperity has sunk massively and with the government's aid accumulated in the hands of a specific few. I don't feel like replacing unskilled production labor with part time min. wage service sector jobs is exemplary of prosperity.

 

But there's really not much point in me arguing things because my argument is rather subjective. I have a significant background in business and economics (my wife is more accounting and finance, even though this is part of my background), but many of the things I've learned are tools that seem rather fixed toward perpetuating fundamentals that are for short term gain (for the wealthiest), long term pain (for everyone else).

How big of a drop? Forecasting firm Macroeconomic Advisors predicts an 8% fall in the U.S. A new paper out Friday from the Brookings Institute projects a 10% to 15% nosedive. You get the idea.

Almost everyone on Wall Street currently predicts Hillary Clinton will win the White House. A Trump triumph would likely cause investors to flee stocks to the safety of gold and bonds. Trump is the king of unpredictability (something Wall Street hates), and he's campaigned on an anti-trade agenda, which wouldn't be good for big business

Precisely why financial media should be ignored. I was personally watching FOX that night and they didn't show the futures but I always have my futures screen up and was watching it happening in real time. To be fair, they were "right" - we saw a dump of almost 10% overnight, but by morning there was nothing left of it for the cash indexes.

How to reconcile? For being so anti Trump, I'm actually shocked the MSM has not busted him for this yet. Am I the only one with a memory or what? From my perspective Trump's been riding the coattails of an aging business cycle that still can't run on its own 2 feet without intervention. The pendulum of speculation has swung far and grown grotesque to get to this point. It will be a wrecking ball when it swings back to earth, and he'll end up with lots of egg on his face, all his own doing because he can't resist bragging about something that's A. not positive and B. has nothing to do with him.

Every President does this, that's why the media isn't saying anything. It's just like the CBO and OMB virtually always present budget predictions that are favorable toward the sitting Presidents policies.

 

But yet, I agree, this is a bubble, but that should be a given this was going to happen with fundamentals since the recession being just as bad if not worse than early-mid last decade. Exports are always indicative of fundamentals. Exporting debt only works so long as the drunk idiot investors investing in the spiked punch bowl called the dollar believe they'll ever get a return down the road. It's only a matter of time until they sober up and realize they won't, and that's in essence what I've been repeatedly checking my proverbial watch for over the last few years. The only reason it hasn't happened yet is because the ever obvious question of what alternative currency do these trend followers flock to has no stable answer.

The dollar is not my problem here. The dollar has been doing (predictably) well over the last decade and I don't think barring short term moves that's going to change just yet. It's stocks here that are incredibly overvalued, and for the president to give a play by play of every day the market rises and tout it as if it's some amazing feat of his presidency is just beyond laughable. As I said in my other post(the one you said you didn't read yet +1'd :D) I hated when Obama did it too but he didn't do it nearly as often. At this point it's becoming a circus.
