I'm confused, but that's nothing new. I have a Filipina wife and as Filipino custom the wife takes her maiden last name and that becomes her new middle name after she is married.

Example Jane Garcia Sanchez married John Doe Smith, so her new name is now Jane Sanchez Smith.

So that's what we did with her visa, green card and ss card.

Oddly enough the man at her Visa K1 interview says that's going to be a problem when she applies for citizenship as they wont allow it.

Not sure if he is wrong or if we are wrong for doing it that way. Any advice would be appreciated as we are about to apply for citizenship and I don't want to mess up the application.

The K1 interviewer is incorrect.  We did that (followed the Philippines name change custom), and we are approved and awaiting our oath. :)

As long as the new legal name is on the US marriage certificate and subsequent green card, you should have zero issues with citizenship.  In fact, they let you change your name at the citizenship interview as well.

Furthermore, you have greater issues, with the Philippine consulate, if you DIDN'T change your name via the Philippines tradition, if you do the record of marriage, new Phil passport, and dual citizenship.

I was hoping that was the case, Be a pain to go back and change everything else back to another name.

Her 2 year green card and our US marriage cert are in the Filipino way as is her driver licence and SS card.

We already registered the marriage in the Philippines and have a Philippine marriage certificate in the Filipino format.

Plus she just applied for a new P.I. passport in her new name in the Filipino format.

Thanks

You should have no issues then.
