Did you file the N400 online? Was it faster?

Ok I just submitted my application online and paid...I see the IOE number but I thought there would be an actual page to print out like a receipt page of sorts, or no?

 

I did print out my application summary though, before paying.

Oh well, I just printed out the screen shot of the last page showing it was submitted as my unofficial receipt lol

 

I know I'll get a paper NOA in the mail with the priority date anyhow showing as today.

We filed late at night. The next day, I don't recall what time, the NOA was visible in the account.

I filed about 8pm...looking at the case status online it says that an email was sent but I don't have anything yet.  Maybe because it's a Saturday today?

Do I have to create a brand new account? I thought I could use my https://egov.uscis.gov/ account, and I'm currently logged in to it for my first green card and the 10 years one case.

 

Now, when I go to https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/ and tried logging in using the same credentials, it didn't work and asked me to create a new account (to which the same email I used for the above worked)

 

I didn't finish as I'm scared of messing things up,but, are the accounts different? do I really need a new one?

They are two separate accounts.

I got confused about that at first too---I started thinking the second website wasn't "real" lol

We also filed under the 3-year rule.  Incidentally, the temporary password being mailed to you is a security part of the system and remains after you pay for the N-400.

Other than that, went smoothly. I do like how, if any RFEs come up, it shows automatically in your account and you can upload the relevant documents yourself, rather than waiting for a notice in the mail, sending in things, and wondering if they got them.

 

All in all, we appreciated not having to print out a zillion pages of evidence for continuous presence. Sure, we'll print a copy to take to the interview when that comes around, but that's just one paper copy, rather than two (sending them one and keeping one for our records & to bring to the interview). Best of luck to you whichever way you end up going!

I just applied online on Monday and I encountered the same things. System logs you out automatically after a certain period of time. I had to fill in 5 years of addresses and jobs even though applying under 3 year rule. And I couldn't delete anything I have uploaded to replace it. But all in all, much better to apply online than via mail. Time and money saving. Let's see how fast the process goes now.

This came up for me too.  How did you get around the 5 years worth of addresses?  I haven't lived here for 5 years, although me and my then partner, now (USC) husband have owned the house over 10 years, so I just tagged on another year, to make the application go forward. 

If asked about it, I'll explain exactly why - ie  your online website sucks.

I think we just provided 5 years' worth of addresses. She'd been here on an F-1 for longer than that anyway, so we just filled in that information.
