Stupid question, intro:

USPS delivered our RFE response on Thursday, July 6 (according to the tracking info). Today, July 12th I got the email and text advising me that our case status has been updated. The online update reads "On July 10, 2017, we received your response to our Request for Evidence blah-blah-blah... Our National Benefits Center office will begin working on your case again. We will mail you a decision or notify you if we need something from you".

My stupid question is, does it take them 2 days to get the envelope from the mail room and this is just acknowledgement of receipt and they may still reject it, OR does this update mean that they actually looked at what I sent and deemed it satisfactory? Can that decision they mention still be about that particular RFE?

Basically, should I continue freaking out about the adequateness of our response?

That message merely mean they just receive your response to RFE and your officer will look at the response when he is available, which nobody can probably tell...

Is it RF initial evidence or just RFE?

Generally  speaking if RFE is just about missing documents or form that you should've submitted, it will be accepted faster but if its about financial affidavit or bona fide marriage related it takes longer time.

I'm pretty sure it means it's been scanned into the mailroom and has not been looked at yet and they have not made any decisions whatsoever

It means they have received it but they have not determined whether what you sent has been accepted or denied as yet. My status has remained this way for over 30 days now. I called today to inquire and the service rep told me they have a 60-day processing time. Nothing to worry about.

I just looked at my scan of the request and it's for initial evidence confirming (or trying to confirm) co-sponsor's income and employment.

They requested a letter of employment listing off certain things (which we were able to get on second try) and pay stabs. The co-sponsor doesn't have paper stabs, so she included printouts from their internal system. I mostly worry about that part. On the other hand, I don't get paper pay stabs too. If I need to show my pay, I log in to our payroll system and export each statement as a PDF. I reeeeeally hope the printouts will be fine for USCIS, I've been freaking out because I'm seeing all over internet that we basically only have one shot at responding to RFE.

Yes, electronic paper paystub should be fine. I did submit mine with that and nowadays many employers do not give you printed version of paper paystub, claiming everything is online.

Since you mention you have already responded to RFE, I don't say much but it could have been more thoroughly prepared such as your W-2, tax return, (or IRS tax receipt), and employment verification letters.

When you see the USCIS updated message saying either that the interview is ready for scheduling, or your case is transferred to local field office, that is when you are assured that your RFE is resolved (of course local field office review your case again but it won't be rigorous as NBC

I would recommend just wait for a month or so, and if you don't hear it, which is probably what it is,

then talk to your congressman so they can talk to Congressional liason USCIS unit officer, by which RFE can be reviewed in a timely manner.

Good luck.

Yea, I was thinking about her W-2 but I don't think she prepares her taxes herself and it's very unlikely she knows where her W-2s are. Even getting her returns (those I did include with the original packet, but AFAIK they are not worth much to USCIS) was a struggle.

@EMBELL_17 wrote above that their current processing time is 60 days, so I'll try to stay patient for a couple of months.
