I second what all the folks are saying here regarding the AIRLINES not allowing you to board. I just know everytime I create a ticket online, they ask me at least 3 times to make sure the information for my ticket is exactly that which is in my passport.

Just to give you an example a girlfriend of mine had. She married a German man and went through the same thing you are going through. She and her hubby wanted to visit Germany a couple months later. Her marriage certificate from Germany had the change on her last name, but her passport still had her maiden name. When she booked the ticket, she didn't realize that she hadn't changed her maiden name to her married name in the passport and was denied entry right then and there before she did online check-in. The tickets were non-refundable too.

I suppose your situation is different with your son and proving that you are his mom, but those are my two cents. I hope you can get this figured out. Your best bet is to contact your ticket booking company and see if they can help you out with adjusting your ticket (doubtful, but it's worth a try).

If your name on your green card, or your passport, is the same last name as in your son's passport, what's the problem exactly? As long as one of them matches.

You're going ot have to change your ticket to your maiden name, otherwise you're not even going to get past check in. Call the airline and ask them if you don't believe us. The rule has ALWAYS been this way, and its got absolutely nothing to do with immigration or customs, its got to do with airline security. If your name on the ticket does not match the name on your ID, they're not going to let you board.

Hey there,

On your passport page (usually the first), you will see an "Amendments" page. Go to your nearest consulate (or if you're near DC, the embassy itself) and have them make an amendment on your passport showing that you have a new surname and that your current surname in your passport is your nee. That's one way of fixing it.

Good luck, and have fun going home!

Canada doesn't do amendments on passports anymore, she'll have to apply for a brand new one, with her new name.

Any chance you have the long form birth certificate for you child with your name as your maiden name on it that may make a big difference.

I guess I've been lucky with my kids having a different name then me when they where little, it was never questioned. Have a safe trip and enjoy your visit with family.
