Hello,

Someone suggested I try this site to get a better idea on how long I should expect to wait for my visa to come through. However I am finding the website very hard to use.
My wife is an American Citizen and has filed an I-130 on my behalf. It has been quite some time since we heard anything. Is anyone able to help me find my way around this site so I can maybe put my mind at rest for the time been.

Appreciate the help.

The spousal visa usually takes 12-14 months to process, but it does depend which processing center you go through and which country you are from.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

By process do you mean, finish and be able to move to America? Is there anyway to find out more specific to my case? Its at Nebraska and I'm from NZ.

Yes. It will be ~13 months on average prior to getting a visa stamp in your passport and thus be able to move to America. If you want a slightly more specific timeline fill out a "Timeline" on the VisaJourney website. Click on your username in the upper right corner and click my timeline. You can then enter information specific to your case (i.e., which service center you're at) and it'll give you a predicted date that your I-130 application should be approved. In general the timeline is as follows --

  • I-130 approval at Nebraska: 4-6 months.
  • Application sent to NVC and scanned into system: 1-3 weeks.
  • Time for approval at NVC: 11 weeks.
  • Time to schedule interview at embassy: variable (but typically 1-2 months).

The fact that you're coming from New Zealand won't really change much for the first step (I-130 approval), other than the fact that you MAY be subject to less security checks (but don't count on this shortening things too much). You also may have an interview scheduled a bit faster.

Will my embassy meeting be in NZ because that is where I filed? Or would it be in Australia where I now live?

It will be whatever was filled out for Question 62 of the I-130 form unless you contact them to update it.
