Diversity Visa then K1 Visa

Hi everyone, first I'd like to thank all the users for helping each other this forum.

My question is, my german gf and I want to be together in the US, however right now I don't have enough financial support. If she were to enter the DV Lotto, and say she does not win, and then applies for the K1 (years later when I can financially support her), will that raise a red flag? seems like anytime you try other methods (visas) it's immediately a red flag and therefore should only try one method.

I hope my question made sense. Thank you for your time.

No, there will no red flag for a K1 petition after applying for DV.

Thanks for answering. I thought maybe they would think it's fraudulent intent.

Literally tens of millions of people a year enter DV. Just entering the lottery is not seen as immigrant intent, it has no ramifications for any other type of US visa.  Good luck with your process, hope it all happens sooner rather than later!

Thank you very much. It is a bad idea if she applies for work and is denied and then tries the K1 correct?

Well, she can't apply for a work visa. A company has to sponsor her and apply for her.

I'm in a similar situation my fiancee is about to send in our petition for a K1 visa and since the DV visa lottery is about starting in October I'm thinking if I could also apply for that.

please advice

When completing the DS-160, they ask if you've ever been denied a visa.   Seem that not being selected for the DV does not qualify as having been refused or denied.   Do you include the fact that you've previously applied for the DV on DS-160?

That question isn’t asked on the DS-160 so there’s no reason to state you applied for DV lottery and weren’t selected.
