I currently have a case in family court, divorce/ child support  my ex has not pay child support...

My vawa approved almost 5 years ago,

My ex does not how I got my green card my question is (my deposition is on thursday), and of course they going to try to intimidate me with inmigration question (my ex already in his deposition mention inmigration issues to put me down and make drop the case)

1- when/if the lawyer ask me my legal status what should I answer?

2- if the lawyer ask me how I got my green card what should I answer?

1. permanent resident/green card holder

2. none of your business

Family court/divorces has nothing to do with immigration.  You may be asked if you are legal.  But they have no right to ask anything further as to how you got it.

His lawyer should not ask you that and if he does tell him to seek such info through uscis. You don't have to disclose such info.

08/2012 Discussed my immigration issues with a lawyer

08/2012 Started gathering evidence

11/2012 Paid my deposit (forgot to sign documents)

01/2013 Signed documents

02/19/2013 Vsc received my application

03/05/2013 EAD mailed out (actual ead date, it will expire 03/04/2014)

03/08/2013 Lawyer received biometrics for 3/17/2013 (day after my edd, [expected due date] did early walking 3/12/13)

03/29/2013 Card in hand (lawyer received it abt a week earlier but I delivered so was unable to collect it)

Waiting for my i360 approval but I'm in no rush (good things come to those who wait)

Thanks a lot eric -pris, and howtosurvive

I just want to know what kind of question I am obligated to answer and what I can refuse to answer

My ex is already sending messages with family member saying that I should drop the case or he would get me deported, same stragedies  he used when we live together ..it took me 5 years to filed the child support case just not to deal with his constantly abuse and threads. ..

Thanks a lot, wish me luck I will be back to share how it goes .....

Your lawyer should be there to keep them in check.  You should ONLY be answering questions directly related to the case at hand.  If he's curious about how you got a green card, that's his problem to deal with.

Tell  straightforward that you are not obligated to discuss your  immigration status besides ordered by a federal judge.
