I'm not sure. I was thinking too that if it was a problem, my visa would have been denied. My POE was at the Chicago O'Hare Airport. The IO was black, wore glasses, bald, and a bit overweight. I could tell just by looking at him that he'd find something. I was actually supposed to have someone else but then they ended up opening the line for Americans and people with Visas to us, since the visitor side was sooooo long. Had it not been for that, I would have not had him.

How could you tell "He'd find something?" Did he fit a certain profile? Just curious...

Actually, that is a good question... I hadn't read that before, and find that remark a bit strange... Distateful indeed.... but that is just me...

If I was you, I would be careful of remarks like this in this country... They sound very racist...

After thinking about this for a bit I am going to add my 2 cents....for what its worth...In America we have many rights...I would actually go as far as saying we have probably the most rights....but none of them is "knowing whats going on"..Despite your concerns at POE...you had no right to know what was going on...just stating the truth...He told you twice not to be concerned??? yes??? but in the end you choose not to trust him....He may be ignorant, but his "job" is to make sure only people that are allowed in the country get in....You may have played out the trial, deliberations and conviction all within 20 minutes....when in essence someone was just making sure he did not make a mistake??? Then on top of that, you comment " you should have known there would be trouble" why because he fit a profile??? or dare I say it because he was black??? I am sorry but this is completely unacceptable. Anyone with half a brain knows that race, age. or sex has nothing to do with the measure of a person....To be honest with you...I am now wondering if his superior may have made a mistake??? You are here now...at least for the meantime..but maybe everyone should stop and think for once that the world does not revolve around themselves???

I just have to say that the OP may not have been referring to his 'profile' when she stated that she 'knew there would be trouble'. For instance, some of the people that are waiting to stamp or not stamp your passports have this look about this that always makes me think I do not want to be in there line. They might not be smiling, they might have this unhappy/bored/mean look in their eye when they look at the big line spread out in front of them. They might be standing as if they are expecting trouble. This has nothing to do with their race, sex, weight, height, etc!! It just has to do with their body language. I for one would must prefer to go to the line with the person that looks at least a little bit happy! The OP did not say that she knew he would be trouble because of his race. Maybe that's what she meant...but maybe not....but there is no reason for you to put their words in her mouth without her clarifying it.

Yeah I definitely don't think the OP was trying to be racist. Someone asked what the immigration officer looked like (So they could try to avoid him) and she answered. It's very likely the that the next comment "I knew he'd be trouble" was completely unrelated. Don't be so fast to judge someone as a racist :P

Have you ever been through an immigration line? Some of those people look very serious, scruntinize every passport, never laugh or make friendly conversation with the people going through-- Of course all the immigration officers can be trouble.. even the ones who are asking their questions in a very friendly way as if they are actually interested (They are really just seeing if you slip up in your story!) But still... some immigration officers at least *look* more intimating than others, gender, race, height, hairstyle, shoe size aside.

After reading this and thinking, I know she was not racist...she was prejudice and sowed pre judgement, however I think this entire post has to deal with it taking a bit more time and her anxiety disorder...oh well, Like I said enjoy your stay in America.

You didn't understand what I wrote, but that's okay, I wasn't expecting much from someone who follows the masses in ignorance.

THAT is a truly ignorant thing to say..

Oh really? Why don't you educate me.

Come on, just get along...both are mental illness and both can result in people dieing...just schizophrenic people usually kill themselves rather than others to the tune of 5 percent of schizo's die from suicide.

Don't trying to be rude to the OP, but when people post that they were treated very harshly or rudely, one (we the readers)doen't know the whole truth!! Peopel take/react to things differently than others. I have been around certain people in certain situations and nothing happened, BUT to the other person, it was a huge dramatic experience.

POE officers for the most part are a very serious bunch and they take their job extremely serious, so one can't expect them to be overly friendly to you, and I'm sure they are instructed to speak in an authorative voice, as they are in an authorative position. I'm sure he meant no disrespect, but he has a serious job to do, and one has to respect that, and in time I'm sure he would have answered your question. And it is job to find the correct answer, in this case he saw something on your medical file and obviously had no clue about it, so instead of putting his head in the sand, he did the correct thing and found the answer, which i think is a good thing to do, it may have caused you some stress, but I think it is a great thing the POE officer did his job and gathered the information, yes in a perfect world he could have discussed that with you, but he does not have to. Best of luck in the USA.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
