Hi, My name is Marjie, my fiancé lives in Turkey. August 17th will be my 3rd trip to Turkey each time I stay 2-3 weeks. My question is should I just do the fiancé visa or Marry in August and do a marriage visa. Is one better then the other?

I did the spouse visa so I don't know much about the fiance visa.  The fiance is faster.  Not sure exactly long it is taking now.  The spouse visa takes about a year.  We chose that because it was important for my husband to be able to work as soon as he arrived.  For the fiance visa there is a period of time you are not allowed to work or travel out of the country.  It really comes down to what is preferable to you.

Currently, a standard K-1 visa takes about 5-6 months from petition submission to visa issuance. Please note that RFE, AP or further medical test (think sputum) will add additional time to the 5-6 months. With a K-1, the alien beneficiary/fiance(e) cannot work immediately upon entering the US. After getting married within 90 days, you'll need to file for AOS + EAD (for employment) + AP (for any travels outside of the US and to be granted re-entry).

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Agree with others. Not a matter of which is better but a matter of circumstance and preference.

Pros and cons to each.
