N-400 July 2017 Filers

Man, I'm officially bummed out. I filed by paper becausue I couldn't find where to find online. I created a ELIS account but there were no options to file N400 when logged in there. Today I find out that you should login to ELIS, then just go to the n400 page and press the file button and it will take you to online filing. Blah.. I guess there is no way to re-file now?

Hi I'm new to this forum..I filed my citizenship in July as my husband is a U.S citizen.. i just got to know today that I will need to travel outside the country around Jan 28th 2018😟 and now I'm freaking out if I can get my citizenship , U.S passport & visa to the country I need to travel by Jan 2018.Here are my details

Any of you know of folks from Columbus who had interview recently? The uscis shows Columbus processing Jan 2017 cases as of June 30th which is 6 months ..I really hope it doesn't take that long..my receipt # starts with NBC..Until yesterday I didn't even bother to check my status because I was in no hurry but today it's changed..I really hope I get my interview scheduled in a month or 2..

@Jaxx thanks for adding me..When the cash was encashed I believe it said USCIS Chicago so may be its Chicago lockbox.like I said until yesterday I didn't how fast things were progressing and if it was even progressing or not 😀.. I was in no hurry but now that I know I have to travel I'm freaking out & unfortunately this is the stage where nothing much happens & I just need to wait..

Since you're not travelling until Jan. 2018, and you are already in-line for the interview since August, there's a good chance you will have your actual interview before the year is over. After that, generally there is at least a 30-day window between the interview date and the actual oath ceremony date from what I've seen checking various other progress threads. In terms of the passport, you can apply for that the same day or next day and opt for expedited service to get it in your hands quicker. If you have proof of travel, then you can try for same-day passport servicing if that is available in the area you live in (where you get the passport on the same day you apply for it).

What does your online case status say exactly?

On August 11, 2017, we started the interview scheduling process for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization , Receipt Number NBC*xxxxxxx. We will send you an interview notice.

Regarding Same Day passport I was researching on it yesterday and it looks like we have one in Detroit,Chicago that does same day passport..I'm considering that as an option to get it the same ticket..I could probably book a ticket & show that as a proof as well.

Ok so you haven't actually booked your travel in Jan. yet--I was under the impression from your postings that your travel plans were already set in stone (so to speak) and that's why you were anxious about your interview/oath timing. Yes, for same day processing you would need proof of impending travel, or a death certificate (need to travel for a funeral) or something else to prove emergency processing.

As for the case status---when it changes to "Read the notice we mailed"...then you know the interview date has actually been set and you should expect the paper letter to arrive in the mail shortly thereafter. This online change might NOT take place since you filed a paper application, though.

My account was touched on 9/1, next I received an email that my case was updated on uscis.gov ("Interview was Scheduled") on 9/11. The following morning (9/12), the case status on my online account changed to "Read the notice we mailed". This morning (9/13), the interview notice was uploaded to my online account.

I house haven't booked the ticket yet, waiting to see if I could get to the interview before I book it

My advice would be hold off on booking it until you know your interview date at least. You are permitted to travel while your N400 is processing, though.

I guess everyone got the news about Equifax. Did anyone try to do a credit freeze? I am wondering if that will interfere with for example name check, etc.

USCIS doesn't check an applicant's credit score.

I saw that you did a walk-in for your biometrics...what was the original date supposed to be?

I've heard two theories---that walk-ins speed up the process, and that walk-ins don't move anything faster because they go by the original date for beginning the processing of biometrics so as not to overload the FBI.

IF they go by the original date to begin processing, then you're looking at least at a 30-60 day window AFTER the original date (not your walk in date) before being moved inline depending on how busy your field office is. It also depends, of course, what turns up in the background and name check (especially if you have a common name it can take longer to sort out).

Don't just go by the case status, check the date in the upper right hand corner to see if it has changed since doing your walk in.
