Hi Jon Snow, you're right.. I actually filed by paper and did get an inline update online. If it helps - this is what I did.. a few days after filing I created an online account on egov uscis. Then I got my NOA and added my tracking number after which it showed my biometrics appointment. At that point I think I added email and mobile notifications by checking those boxes with Y.. and after about a week after my biometrics I got a text message and email that a change had been made. So it now shows inline for interview on my account.

Can you please tell me what tracking number are you referring to. is it the same thing as case number you mean? thanks.

Sure, it is the application number on the NOA. On the top left hand corner. Appears under N-400, Application for Naturalization

Thanks again. I just checked. It's the application number that starts with NBC.....
I did the same thing u did but for some reason, it only shows that they received my case online and nothing after that. Biometrics letter came in the mail but still nothing changed. So i guess they are lazy over there in the office and dont wanna update all the cases

That's exactly how it is for me. I created the account once I have received the NOA and put the NBC number into it. It has never updated ever since that.

Hmmm, so, you are one of the few paper-filers who can confirm that even the biometric appointment shows up. Very interesting.

.it's possible your BG check hasn't cleared yet...when did you do your biometrics?

Jon Snow and rangrut, that's interesting that you did the very same steps that I did and yet that our results are different. I am not sure why  But yes, every action does seem to be showing up so far. It may have been the timing of when I created my account. Then again I just don't know if they update all accounts consistently.. seems to be a bit of a mystery. I will keep the group posted of any further updates.

I'm in the same situation as Jon Snow and rangrut, the only status showing up for me is Case was Received in mid-July. Biometrics only arrived in the mail. I wonder now if we'll ever get the "inline for interview" online status, or if our status will only change when our interview is already scheduled

@peachlings and @Jon Snow and @lover5..........since we are in the same situation. I got some info from the people who went through the same process in the past year or so. Net thing, we will get text/email for "In-line" next along with the "in line" letter. And then of course the text/email for Interview along with the letter in the mail. So hang in there

@Jon Snow....standard procedure for people who file through mail/paper version: 

1) you send in your n400 application through mail. 
2) they receive the case and send you text or email if u signed up for it. Otherwise everyone gets the letter regardless. 

3) you may or may not get biometrics text or email but everyone gets the letter because you need it for that day. 

4) then you will get the "in line" text or email and the letter for being inline (just because not everyone sign up for texts or email alerts)

5) similarly you get the text or email for interview being schedule and of course the letter which you need to take with you. 

 

Now this has been the standard procedure till 2016. I dont know if things changed recently.
