Silly question...it's been so long since I've dealt with USCIS that I can't remember...What does the "priority date" mean again?  My received date is actually a day later than what the priority date is showing.

First they will snail-mail the NOA letter telling you the application has been received and is under processing.  Then after that, they will snail-mail the biometrics letter (fingerprinting).

How long is anyone's guess.  Some people get it a few days after receiving the NOA, some people get it a full month after.  It also depends on where you filed, and how busy that office is with the amount of applications they receive.

Generally speaking, biometrics are scheduled within a month of your application being received.

Add your case to the tracker, when you have a moment?  That way you can easily compare your waiting times with others who have filed this month.

@Going through I have always wondered the same thing. I looked around VJ and this seems like a plausible answer.

For a case involving a spouse of a US Citizen, the priority date is nothing more than the date the file officially enters the queue. It does not affect the scheduling of an interview by the NVC as a visa for a spouse of a US Citizen is not subject to numerical limitations.

For visas in numerically limited categories, the priority date must be current before an interview can be scheduled.

See...I don't know if that's necessarily true then....because my priority date shows July 13th....and I didn't even submit my application until July 14th.

I can't have been placed in the queue a full day before my application was even submitted to USCIS...unless they have turned into psychics now.

Unless for some reason they backdate them.  But then, if they were backdating applications then that opens up an entirely different can of worms considering people need to file before certain dates, etc. and just adds to the confusion (like someone on here who had their application rejected because they filed exactly 1 day earlier than they were supposed to in their 90-day window.).

Just talking to myself :)

Very true! So far the PD hasn't really impacted me so I wasn't always too concerned. But it is good to know regardless. I'll keep looking for a good answer and keep everyone posted.

Hi! Could somebody please update me in the list (AK_2014, online filer)? Thank you!

fingerprints: 08/02/2017

(Apparently they just recently closed the ASC less than 2 miles from our house, so it'll be a 1.5-hour public transit adventure out to the suburbs, but the day/time work, so it'll be very doable.)

How can I get the biometrics via walk in?

You have to wait until you have an actual biometrics appointment letter first.

If the office allows it, you can do a walk in earlier.  Sometimes they only want you to do a walk in if there's a substantial reason you can't make your actual appointment date (ie. out of town that day, medical appointment, etc.)  Other times, they don't care if you walk in and welcome you so long as you are willing to wait until they can squeeze you in between people with actual appointments.  Call the office your biometrics will be in when you get the letter and ask.

Some say it speeds up the process by shaving off a couple of weeks when you do a walk in, some say it makes no difference because they don't send in your prints until after the "real" biometrics date (so they don't overcrowd the FBI at any point).

I am more of a believer in the first line of reasoning, and plan on doing a walk in if I can.

Thanks for answer and let us know if u can do it.
