Just read on another thread an applicant who submitted the N400 this year had only a 45 day wait between their biometrics and their interview appointment being scheduled---and they filed in NYC of all places!  Crazy super fast!  Gives me some hope...

Every case has it's own timeline.

 

For example 3 people i personally know who applied in the last 18 months. Two applied at the same field office............one got whole process done in little under 4 months. Other one had to wait 8.5 months. (they both applied 1 month apart just so u all know). 

 

And for the third one who applied at a different office, it took about 5.5 months. 

this pisses me off. I mean come on. We already been through biometrics before etc...........why cant they make at least n400 faster. Can't expect much when it comes to govt. Just put us on polygraph/lie detecting machine with applicant's conset and get it done fast. No more than 3 months. This is Total BS..................

No worries...venting is always good.  I agree, the immigration process is stressful enough without the long waiting times and the not-knowing and what ifs that surround long waiting times.

 

The slowdown is because of the tons of applications received nation-wide after the presidential election.  I can't blame people scrambling to get their status secured with the N400, either, especially with this new administration now.  Frankly, it's what finally pushed me to do it instead of renewing my 10 year GC again as I had originally planned.

More detail that might help online filers...

One thing to note is that part of the new version of their website (https://my.uscis.gov) has been showing "Interview Scheduled" and "USCIS has scheduled your interview appointment and will mail you the appointment notice" since right after my biometrics appointment on 7/10.  This appeared under the "View case activity" button.  However, after clicking on "View case activity" it always showed the biometrics status.  On Friday, the notification went out, the last updated date changed, and the case activity changed to the complete interview scheduled status.  The status also changed on Friday on the case status website (https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/mycasestatus.do) from biometrics to interview scheduled.  Basically, the original "interview scheduled" status was not accurate and (based on previous posts on the topic) was probably just the case being moved to the local office.  Again, no "in line" status update.  I hope this helps someone in the future who filed online.

So I just got home from my biometrics! It went very smoothly - the center for this in Queens is pretty good, the whole thing took about 20-30 minutes. Also, as a potentially useful side note for future applicants, they were fine letting me bring my baby in with me and even took my photograph with him in the carrier I was wearing! 

 

I'm not seeing any change to my case yet - maybe I'm being too impatient... When should I expect it to update? Also, the officer gave me back my appointment letter (stamped) - is he supposed to do that? I expected them to keep it, but I guess they didn't need the paperwork, it's all just digital?

Yes, keep the letter.  It serves as your only proof that you attended the appointment, should that be brought into question later.

 

FBI criminal checks take a couple of days if no hit, the name check can take a couple of weeks depending on how common your name is.

 

Which Queens office did you go to?  They sent me to LIC.

FBI criminal checks take a couple of days if no hit, the name check can take a couple of weeks depending on how common your name is.

 

Which Queens office did you go to?  They sent me to LIC.

Thanks. That's reassuring that they didn't accidentally give me the letter back! Yep, I went to LIC too.

From what I saw on the computer screen when I went---Code 5 means capturing an electronic signature, photo and full-hand fingerprint.

This is based off of the graphic shown on the lady's screen when I was looking over her shoulder--.a cartoonish symbol including a pen, a sillouhette of a person's head, and a fingerprint-looking coil-thingy (don't you love my descriptions of stuff??)  Some of the other code graphics left out the signature, or photo part.

one more thing. I've been hearing that along with the stamped biometrics letter, they also giving the worksheet back ....the one we fill out at the office (where we write our name, weight, height etc). ??? My FP date coming up so making sure. thanks.
