My dad applied for a tourist visa at the US Embassy in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). His interview was scheduled for 7/6/17

Out of curiosity on the night before I went onto the USTravel Docs website, and it state:
“Passport Status :

Your passport is still with the US Embassy/Consulate”

I found this was odd, as this was the day before and his passport was on his possession

Anyways, the day of the interview, he met with the consular officer. She told him that she didn’t see a reason to deny his visa and if it were up to her, she would approve a 10 year visa. She then, called her supervisor asked him more question regarding family life, employment etc. Supervisor said the same thing. They didn’t ask for any supporting documents, they did ask for his passport which they kept and told him that no additional documents needed, but that his case will be under administrative processing.

We have been checking the CEAC website only status there is: Case Received and last updated today 07/10/17.
UsTravelDocs website still states: Passport still with US Embassy/Consulate

Had anyone experience a similar situation?
What are the chances of his visa being issued?
How long can administrative process take?
Is CEAC website updated daily?

***Your feedback is greatly appreciated***

Nobody can give a definite answer on administration times (could take days, weeks, or even months).

If they took his passport that is a good sign. It could mean it is being processed to have a visa issued. Although, that is not a guarantee.

AP (administrative processing) is normal. Everyone goes through it whether issued or denied.
