Question about driving license renewal

Hi,

I moved to Minnesota last year and I'm waiting for my AOS to go through (it's been received by USCIS and I have my EAD, which needs to be renewed by November).

The other day I got a letter from the DMV asking for renewal of my driving license: in the requirements they ask me to "bring a new or extended residency document or an INS receipt of application for extension of legal presence status".

Now, my question is: what should I bring?

My EAD is gonna expire in 4 months, and I was planning to start the paperwork to renew it in August. The DMV though wants proof of residence by August 15th, so I don't think I'll get either the receipt or the EAD in time. I do have a NOA1 for my AOS that I received in September, but I'm not sure if that's what they need.

What do you think it's the best course of action? Should I file for an early EAD renewal so I can get the receipt in time for August 15th? Or should I present my EAD which is expiring in November? Or maybe the NOA1 can work?

Thanks!

I think EAD renewal can start within 120 days of current expiration. You can still renew your DL with your current 4 months EAD if you don't mind the extra fee, you can go back after you get your new EAD or maybe GC if you get it before the expiration. Just go with all the documents you have and see what they need. I would suggest you present them with the most recent NOA.

The NOA1 from your AOS is a valid receipt. They may not accept your current EAD because it will expire in 4 month.
As you posted ".....or an INS receipt of application for extension of legal presence status".
Take both and see what they will accept.
You can renew the EAD now if you want (120 days ahead) and don't have to wait 90 days before expiration date.
