As a petitioner for the K1 visa, I'm not sure if this is the proper document I need. The back side of this document says that it's not the original birth certificate. I'm not sure. I want to avoid and RFE at all costs. Can anyone advise me. Is it risky to send this document?

PLEASE READ CLOSELY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BACK SIDE OF THE DOCUMENT.

Doesn't look like the official birth certificate. This is a keepsake copy. It's unlikely that the vital statistics office would issue it within a day. So you really should contact your local office to ask about their processing time and how you could get a certified copy. It may or may not require a fee.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

No, this is NOT an official birth certificate. You must order one from the state, and make absolutely sure you do not order an "heirloom" certificate either.

Certificates like this are often given to those who attended the birth at the hospital. While I'm sure it's original, it's not the legal "official" certificate.

Heirloom certificates are also given to you by various states... it's also what you don't want.

Most birth certificates can be ordered online now in the US. If not, go down to your vital statistics office and have them print it out for you there.

It is often very quick (can be printed right away), but I've seen wait times of up to 8 weeks in high-traffic vital statistics offices.

I did checking for you, and yes, you can order them online in New Jersey. Takes a few weeks for delivery.

I had the same problem.  It's a hospital birth certificate, not a state birth certificate.  The prior answers are what I would tell you.  Most states let you order them online and get them quickly.  This is probably late for you, but for others reading this having the same question.
