Hi there,

I just received my biometrics notice in the mail today for the form I-751 (Petition to Remove Conditions of Permanent Resident)! However, there is something that confused me which is under the "Code" is written "5" !!!!!

I'm so confused because from my research; there should be one of these codes (1,2,3):

Code 1 - 10 finger prints

Code 2 - Photo, Signature, Index finger print

Code 3 - combo of code 1 & code 2

So, what is the deal with "Code 5" that I have on my notice?! Any idea?

Thanks!

Rere

Thanks! :D

Hi,

Well as I promised, here's what happened in my appointment:

1. Signature

2. photo

3. Left hand: 4 figures all together (just lightly tapping), then thumb by itself, then each finger of my left hand by itself tapping and rolling to the sides on the screen!

4. Same thing with right hand!

Good Luck!

Rere

Hi all,

I also had Code 5 on my biometrics notice however... they only collected my right hand four fingers and no thumbs... I asked if my thumbs are needed to the technician and she said no you are all done....  I found my way to this forum because I didn't feel comfortable with the technicians answer and now even more so given that rere2015 had his thumbs prints collected. My wife was right before me with the same tech and she gave her the same treatment( one hand no thumbs). This is very confusing I can't help to wonder if my appointment was messed up by the person collecting fingerprints... anyone else had the same experience as me?

Thanks in advance,

Mas

Hey Mas,

I'm sorry that you had this experience!

I strongly feel that the technicians know their business. However, they can make a mistake by forgetting or missing something as any human being does BUT the good thing is that you actually asked and brought it to her attention and she said no need!  I don't think you should worry much! Is this your first fingerprints with the USCIS ever? If not, do you remember if they collected thumb prints before?

I really think each case is different regardless of the code! Like the nationality plays a role in this as well as the form filed! I've heard from a person I know he never got a second fingerprints collected  because they used his first time fingerprints which sounded really strange  to me but it happened and this person's case was approved!

Good Luck!

I did have all my fingerprints taken in 2012 for my GC application. Maybe they will reuse like you said 🤞

Nice, Got the answer of Code 5.  More details, I found by Googleing:

  • Code 1 is for fingerprinting of all 10 fingers. This is electronically sent to FBI the same day, they run it to match thru their database to match it with criminals/persons of interest and send the results the same day (or the next) to USCIS. Code 1 is very important as it is part of your security/background check and determines admissibility for GC. Code 1 expires after 15 months e.g. FBI needs to check their database again.
  • Code 2 (right index finger only+photo+sign) is for the generation of cards for immigration benefits e.g. EAD, GC etc. If you filed for EAD, you definitely need code 2 or the card can not be generated. Code 2 is done everytime we apply for a benefit.
  • Code 3 (fingerprinting all 10 fingers+photo+sign) is a combination of both, when USCIS wants to get a security check done on you as well as generate card.
  • With Code 5 the difference is that USCIS they scans only 4 right-hand fingers.
  • When asked USCI9S confirmed at the ASC that "this is the new requirement of USCIS and has started since the last couple of months"
  • 2. "...how much time to get work card after biometrics?" "Work Card" is usually in your mail box less than 3 months after having had your biometrics taken.
