Affidavits in lieu of marriage and birth certificates for immigration of Indian parents

Hi everyone!

I am in the process of getting my citizenship and would like to file for my parents as soon as I am done. Meanwhile I was thinking to have all the required documents ready for them.

Both my parents live in India and are retired. They don't have a birth certificate or marriage certificate. Even though their DOB and marriage is validated in legal documents like passports and adhaar card.

Has someone been in a similar situation and what did you do that worked out for you?

I have read in previous threads that in these situations, we can have a signed affidavit by city's municipal corporation which can be submitted in lieu of non availability of birth and marriage certificates.

Is this a valid statement? And if yes, can someone provide me with the template of the affidavits that they used for this purpose? Also, if someone can guide me with the list of other supporting documents that may be needed and should be submitted?

Thanks and appreciate the help.

Getting a certificate of no record from the local municipality is next to impossible in India. You know how they work over there. I had a hell lot of trouble dealing with them. I suggest you read on the us consulate website about what kind of affidavit you need. I read it like a year ago.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I also have a somewhat different situation that I need guidance for.

My mom was 17year old when she got married to my dad in 1981 and had her first child in 1982 (my sister- not petitioning) . The marriage was registered at local sikh temple but no official document/ certificate was issued. As legal age to marry in India is 18 years, if we apply for a late registration of marriage or an affidavit, will it be valid? As my mom was not of the legal marriageable age at that time?

Hi!

I got my parents birth affidavits made by two relatives who are older to them and basically just saying that Mr.xxx was born on xxx date and xx mother and xx father and I was present at that time as a witness of them being born and no birth certificate was issued at that time. So two affidavits for each of my parents. Also attached their matriculation or any other graduation certificate that I could get for them. For marriage certificate, my father went and got one made from the city corporation showing some proof of joint assets and another affidavit from witnesses.
