It took way less time for me for my case to be received

No offense but your posts don't seem to provide any help.

It takes less than 6 weeks to reach the nvc

We established that already.

The question was when to call before the 6 weeks and how to get the case number in a timely manner without being told to wait 6 weeks.

Based on what others have posted, it is usually best to start calling after 2 weeks.

I received the following from USCIS.

On July 7, 2017, we sent your case, Receipt Number LINXXXXXXXXXX, to the Department of State for visa processing. You can check the status of your case at the National Visa Center after six weeks from the above date by visiting www.nvc.state.gov. You can find general information on Consular Processing by visiting our website at www.uscis.gov . The website will provide information on what to do next, who to contact, and how to inform us of any changes in your situation or address.

However, the site www.nvc.state.gov does not seem to be valid.

I don't have a case number yet. What is the correct site to track cases?

Thanks.

Our case was sent to the department of state on March 17th and my husband called them on March 30th, The case number was assigned on March 29th. You can give them a call after 2 weeks then check once or twice a week if they did not assign a case number yet.

That means the case was already assigned even before your husband called? That's interesting.

Yes, actually i found it out since they assign the case number based on a pattern, the 5th,6th and 7th digits shows the day case number was assigned+500. It's just about math nerd's problems :) like if the case number is XXX2017600001, it means case number was assigned on 100th day of 2017

I was approved by USCIS on 6/23 and then they sent me an email stating that my case was sent to NVC on 7/7. That's 2 weeks after being approved. That seems to be a long time to wait to send a case.

It took us 17 days -- from USCIS approval to NVC receiving our case files. I thought it took too long as well and know that some people have shorter "transit" time, still it is better to be moving through the system than deal with repeated RFEs or AP...

NVC wait times seems to have improved some, hang in there and soon you will start seeing more updates on your case.

Best of luck!

  • 2 weeks later...

I called today and received my case number and my invoice number.

The representative then says that I won't be able to enter anything on the website and that I have to wait for email which could take about 4 weeks.

Does that sound about right?

It seems that I should not have to wait that long.

Go to NVC and try your case number and invoice number, that's what i did and it worked and i hadn't received the email.

October 31, 2016 I-130 sent to Chicago Lockbox

November 4, 2016 Received text case sent to Nebraska

November 10, 2016 Received Hard copy of NOA1

Thanks.

All I can do right now is the choice of agent. I hope that I did not mess up since I also put myself as the preparer.

How long can it take before I can start the IV application?

The supporting documents such as pictures, visits, bank statements, etc. that were initially sent to USCIS, are these also sent to NVC? I did not get anything back from USCIS.

Also, if NVC do get these documents, would they include them with the additional documents like tax statements, police certificate, beneficiary birth certificate, etc and send them to the consulate?
