I received the following from USCIS.

On July 7, 2017, we sent your case, Receipt Number LINXXXXXXXXXX, to the Department of State for visa processing. You can check the status of your case at the National Visa Center after six weeks from the above date by visiting www.nvc.state.gov. You can find general information on Consular Processing by visiting our website at www.uscis.gov . The website will provide information on what to do next, who to contact, and how to inform us of any changes in your situation or address.

However, the site www.nvc.state.gov does not seem to be valid.

I don't have a case number yet. What is the correct site to track cases?

Thanks.

NVC usually doesn't have your case or invoice number for a few weeks. When I called, they had received it, but wasn't entered into the system for over 2 weeks. The operator sent it to a supervisor on Friday and on the Monday I had case and invoice number

October 31, 2016 I-130 sent to Chicago Lockbox

November 4, 2016 Received text case sent to Nebraska

November 10, 2016 Received Hard copy of NOA1

How long after USCIS approved you did you call NVC?

I was approved by USCIS on 6/23 and then they sent me an email stating that my case was sent to NVC on 7/7. That's 2 weeks after being approved. That seems to be a long time to wait to send a case.

call the nvc and get the case number and the Payment Number

The question is when is it a reasonable time to do so? They tell me to wait 6 weeks.

From what I have read here on Visa Journey, it could take much less time than that to get a case number.

I called right away, they said call back in 2 weeks.

We were approved May 24, NVC received the case June 6. I was told it was there but not entered in the system. I called the following week, still not entered. Was told it can take up to 6 weeks to be entered. June 26 they entered it and I got case number and invoice number.

The USCIS notice that says that the case was sent to NVC, what date was yours? Was it May 24th, June 6th or some other date?

I don't want to seem that I am interrogating you but you mentioned that NVC had the case on June 6. Could USCIS really mean sent date is actually the date NVC received the case?

Thanks for all the valuable information that you've provided.

I hope that I could provide helpful information as well to others who are about to go through the same process.

After we got approved May 24 I called NVC before the status changed on USCIS. NVC told me our case arrived on June 6 and was in the building, their words not mine lol USCIS notice said it was sent on June 6 to NVC. After our approval I didn't look at USCIS until NVC said I could look on the USCIS website. So I assume the notice meant June 6 is the actual date it arrived at NVC

It's no problem the questions, I was surprised it took so long to be entered in the system at NVC

You can call them with your LINXXXXXXXXXX, ur date of birth. But you need to wait like two weeks if you don't hear from them. Cos they will definitely tell you they working on it, so be patient for two.weeks before you start calling

Thanks. It seems like it depends on which person you reach. Some just tell you straight up that it takes 6 weeks while some will make an effort to look for you.
