What will you do about Tax time? I mean you have to file as married.

What other evidence have you gathered for your interview? Since you are AOS from inside US you will have an interview.

Your problem is not the parents not know about immigration (unless home visit of course) but otherwise that won't effect you.

But you have to do study as married people like taxes as married, finances, insurance and so on... (It's needed for immigration proposes also to show it's a real marriage)

It's not law to file as a married couple. This is optional and we can still file as single.

Also, taxes aren't due until April 17th 2018 so this won't effect us as we got married after taxes were due this year.

I mean, I haven't had a notification to depart the United States and I could stay here for another year or two if I wanted, but I don't like the idea of being here illegally. Also, if i went back to England for my studies then I wouldn't be able to come back as I overstayed my visa waiver. We want to start a life together after I'm done with college and we can't do that unless we complete AOS :(

Yeah it will really look good for immigration to file single.

It's either married filing jointly or married filing separately so yes you have to file as married when you are married.

And again have you other stuff collected for you interview? You do know you have to present documents at the interview right?

Yes but we won't be filing oru taxes during the whole immigration process, so it doesnt matter.

Tax day isn't until April 17th 2018. We are submitting my AOS on Monday. If the process takes 9 months, this will be April 8th 2018 and we would've have had to file our taxes yet.

This is just a really stressful period for me, I'm trying to complete my studies but I also need to be able to live with my wife in the US.

If you were in the US to complete your studies why did you need to get married? If you were only in your second year of medical school and had two more years to go couldn't you just have stayed in school until you were ready to get married?

Or did you need to get married to stay in the US just so you could finish school? Most people in medical school don't take a year off halfway through.

Everyone on here knows how hard it is to  be apart from someone you love but as an adult we know it's a part of life

Yes it do matter you will also have to ROC and maybe citizenship and your interview might not be until next year many wait a long time for interview and if it's that long then you have to present the 2017 at that time.

My university is in the UK.

We want to live together and we love each other too much to be a part so I'm putting my studies on hold until we can live together.

First, you need a lot of evidence of bona fide marriage/relationship. I don't know how you are going to get that without telling the parents. You guys don't even have a permanent address because you are going back and forth between parents' houses.

Second, if you get a RFE you will get a letter. Do you want one of the parents to open the letter and find out? Or even worse, put it in the garage because they do not know?

Third, first you said you were in medical school and now in college in the UK. If the US medical school is a postgraduate degree. You won't be able to go back to finish (also, coming to the US as a foreign doctor is hard because you'll have to revalidate your title and the exam is not easy) after you AOS.  A green card is to live in the US permanently; you have too long to go in the UK.

Yes, but that will be in 2 years - by then we would have told our parents. We just need couple years before we're ready to tell them.

That's ok.  Just put your big boy's pants on and tell your family and friends that you are married OR be ready to be asked about why you did not.

Thats one year.

I'm really just trying to help you see the problem in this.

You WILL have an AOS interview.

And you WILL need evidence of a bona fide marriage at that interview or you will most likely get denied.

You have to start gathering evidence of that.

You probably didn't think this thru bc u need to LIVE in the USA after a green card or u losee it and to go to a USA medical school it's very expensive and u will have to start the 4 years over again.

Well you can leave you just have to be in the United States the majority of the year.  You definitely can't be going to a foreign school.

You need to tell your parents because they'll find out eventually.
