Haven't told our parents about marriage. Will we get denied?

OP, you asked if the insurance would know if she is married, no not yet. However they will know that when she gets sick
or needs hospitalization per many forms she would have to fill out and if she does not say she is married on them
then she commits insurance fraud and her father would be in trouble also. Do not dig the hole deeper as Damara so
wisely stated in his excellent post. It is worth reading his post twice and let it sink in. This is not a time to 'respect her feelings'
and play along but time to lead her respectfully into what is the right thing to do.

You can not wait to let the insurance company know. If she uses the insurance- which she probably wont be eligible for once she tells them she is married- (most policies dont allow for adult married children on them)- she will be committing insurance fraud. 

 

Getting married changes your legal status. It impacts tons of things from insurance (health and vehicle) to medical issues to tax issues.  These are issues both you and her parents have to deal with. You need to explain to your wife that it is important to tell her parents. I understand she doesnt want to. Its a bad idea not to. And believe me, Im not the only one who can say my spouse has had some bad ideas that Ive had to "veto". Its part of life. 

 

As a side note I am a parent of a child the same age as you guys. I would be furious if I found out that the "boyfriend" whom I have been let live with us was really the husband. When you find yourself in a hole- stop digging. You didnt just wake up and go to the courthouse and get married in one hour did you? You had to get a license and come back most likely. Her parents are going to feel betrayed and rightly so. Its too late now to undo it, but you have to stop digging your hole and come clean. If you cant reason with your wife then maybe shes not mature enough to be married? 

 

Finally you cant just have joint accounts. Anyone can open an account. Simply having it doesnt mean squat. You have to actually use the account. Are you planning on using it? If not then theres no point in having them. 

 

You are going down a slippery slope here by not telling her parents who you live with. Good moral character is needed for immigration. Now Im not saying lying to her parents disqualifies you but it doesnt help. You are currently lying to get a benefit. (living with her parents).

I spoke to my wife about the joint account, she said she wants to do it. We will have a joint checking and savings account. She said she only wants to use the savings account and she'll put a little in each month and then rest in her personal savings account at her other bank. Over time she wants to put more into our joint savings and we will put equal amounts in it.

 

We will also get a joint credit card when I get my social within a month, fingers crossed.

 

Would it do more harm than good to only use our joint savings account? Would it be better just to have a joint credit card?

I was just making the general comment that OCare allows children to stay on their Parents plans, marriage does not negate this. I assume nothing has been mentioned that would except this general policy.

You need a joint checking.
Joint savings.
Joint credit card(s). All 3 items because you do not have much else.
Affidavit from her mom that you both live with her >>> Important, because you have no lease or mortgage.
If you both help out with the utilities then she can state that in the affidavit >>>> you have no utilities in your names.
She needs to change her phone bill from out of her dad's name into both of your name >>>> start with something on your own.

Make a will.
Make a living will.
Make a power of attorney
The last 3 can be done online (or at the social service department at a hospital for the living will only).

Nothing has been mentioned because the policy is not known to OP or his wife.
It was advised to be truthful with the policy holder (father of wife) so he can check into that specific policy so no

insurance fraud is committed in the future. If the policy allows it then she can of course stay on it. It is unknown and should be checked
by OP's wife.

I had no joint account no will and no attorney and got approved. The OP being from the UK won't need as much evidence as you need with your husband. 

Drivers license, joint phone bill and taxes is all I had. Oh and lots of pictures with each other family. The OP will be fine. He is from a low fraud country

Thank you so much. Yes they are. I was super excited about the whole process, but after this thread and the amount of hate i've receive I don't feel too great anymore.
