Hi again :)

Well,  I'm about to book tickets, to go to Ukraine, and my return flight  is going to be with Air Canada, with layover in Toronto. As I understood, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. with a valid green card does not need a visa to travel through Canadian airport, but needs to apply on-line for an Electronic Travel Authorization.  Right?....

I know how to apply, if I need to...  I'm just not sure  if Canada treats this "package"  - expired green card and + Extension Letter - as a valid green card...

Any thoughts?.. Experience?..

Thanks a lot!

We dealt with a pretty similar situation last month (going through YYZ, but leaving the US). We had a passport stamp since the letter was almost a year old, but were waiting for an I-751 too. eTA was given online immediately and transit wasn't an issue at all. Stamp was just glanced at coming back into the US, incidentally.

Thank you!

Do I understand this correct - I have to apply for eTA BEFORE booking the tickets, right?...

Sorry, just want to make it right :)

Good to hear! Just to clarify -- Did the eTA application ask for the expiration date of the green card, and if so, did you add exactly one year to your expired card, or what did you enter for the date?

From what I've just learnt here, in VJ,  - yes, people added a year to their expired green cards...

Great! (That's also what we did for Global Entry, by the way, which went through with no problem.) Just wanted to get this information into the thread in case it comes up as a question. :)

Can you explain? I have Global Entry but since my GC has expired I have not used it. How do you use the kiosk with expired GC? Do you just swipe passport?

thanks!

Sorry, I meant applying for GE during removal of conditions, just as the OP is currently looking to apply for eTA, after the green card has expired. In terms of using GE (which has been just once so far, the Dublin pre clearance), she just walked through the kiosk area, went to the agent who was checking slips for GE people, showed her card & letter to that agent, and was at least able to bypass the regular line where non-GE people were waiting.
