You won't hear anything back  - IRS doesn't contact you "to confirm" they've received your amended Tax Return.. And you won't see 2016 at IRS website as well - because it's been already shown/seen there, once, before you made an amendment.

Usually it takes 6-8 weeks to process amended or mailed Tax Return. If you have a refund - one day  you'll have it deposited on your bank account. This is how you will "learn" they received your paperwork. Or if they have any questions, they will send you a letter. You can also try to get your Tax Transcripts, after 8-10 weeks or so - it will your 'proof" you have filed taxes.

P.S. A lot of scam goes around. Just keep in mind - IRS will NEVER call you, or e-mail you...All of this - scam.  If IRS needs something from you- they will send you a letter, via regular mail. Only.

Good luck

Most definitely. After they processed it they will send you a notice asking you to pay, along with interest and any penalties, if aplicable.

Thank you!

I should wait for their notice then

You were supposed to stick a check with your amended return if you owe money, or pay the amount due on-line via IRS web-site.

Once again - they wont send you any kind of "confirmations" that they received your amendments. BUT - they WILL definitely send you a Notice, IF you are due and didn't pay OR they disagree with the amount you paid.

You should keep in mind that the IRS Notice  won't not necessary find you "tomorrow", or 3 months later -   it can be year(s). So, the longer you delay with a payment, the higher penalty will apply..

But it's all up to - to go ahead and pay the amount you owe, at least part of that if the whole thing is not affordable right now - in this case they will get back to you via mail with a payment plan. OR  - wait for a "greeting card" from IRS.

Good luck.
