Does anyone know how long it takes the Form i485 to be approved? And will my Fiancé be able to leave the United States to go on a honeymoon after marriage? Or will they not let him back in? I understand that his visa is just a one time entry, but I didn't know if we could apply for the AOS and get approved before the honeymoon. We're planning on getting married in October.

Thank you in advance!

The K-1 is as you say a one time entry. After that you guys have to get married within 90 days. After marriage you send in the AOS package to adjust his status (Getting the Green Card) when you send in the AOS package and at the same til send in the EAD/AP then those fee are waived (EAD/AP fee)

EAD= authorization to work   AP= Advance parole. AP is the card he will need to re-enter the country if he leaves, he can not enter again without this card (or of course the GC)

EAD/AP takes about 3-4 months to get from when you send in the AOS package.

SO all in all you have to wait til after the marriage to send in the package so he can leave any time he wants BUT he can NOT re-enter before he has either AP card or Green Card.

So maybe find a honeymoon place within the US?

As per the aforementioned responses, perhaps you'll want to plan a U.S. destination honeymoon, or wait until you have your AP or Green Card, whichever happens first (usually AP).

Best option would be to plan a honeymoon somewhere within the U.S. There are plenty of beautiful and romantic places you can go. This question comes up a lot and you can do a search on here to see that. It's not wise to plan a honeymoon out of country during this process. If you want to do something out of the country, do it for your anniversary after he/she has their greencard.

Puerto Rico was great for our honeymoon! (although some people recommend against it as there's a slight chance your flight may get diverted to a non-US country). Our first choice was Hawaii but we didn't have enough time to make it worth it. So there's two suggestions :)

I would love to go to Puerto Rico or even the US Virgin Islands but I am afraid that they will not let him back in just because it is not part of the 50 states. We've been going through this K1 process for so long (going on 8 months) that I don't want to risk him not being able to come back home with me. That would be a nightmare. Hawaii would be awesome but they are hecka expensive! I'm really hoping we can have his AOS and AP before we travel :) Thank you so much for the suggestions! I'll take all the suggestions out there!

I had 0 problems coming back from PR. I did have a US drivers license though and used that to travel so the question of whether I had a visa never came up. When coming back from PR, we didn't go through international arrivals, just domestic like everyone else.

I understand you not wanting to risk it though. We looked into California too but PR was cheaper and shorter flight for us...

Flights to Maui are pretty affordable too and if it isn't peak season u can prob get a cheap airbnb...

Or just save up and go somewhere cool overseas after u have the AP.

Since you already got correct advise, I will just pop in and suggest to at look renting a cabin (with hot tub) in the Great Smoky Mountains, TN. Especially during fall it's absolutely gorgeous up there and the area is breathtaking.
