Medical - Little to no medical history to bring

Hey VisaJourney people!

I'm about to schedule my medical, just missing one tiny bit of paperwork.

On http://www.visamedicals.info/us-bring.asp it says to bring "Print out of medical records from GP" to the medical.

My situation is as follows; I moved to the UK (from Sweden) six years ago. I only just registered with a GP a year ago, and I have no medical problems at all.

So the GP doesn't have much of anything on me (I have called them and asked for a printout though, they said it'll be 2-3 weeks!?! what the.. how??). Nevertheless, do you guys reckon this will be enough?

Or will it be an issue that I don't have any records from Sweden? Apart from an appendix surgery a decade ago in Sweden I have no medical history in Sweden either. And getting my records from Sweden

will be a massive hassle (and slow, and it'll require a professional translation, etc...). Do I need to start calling hospitals in Sweden to get this information sent to me? I sincerely hope not :( This process has been slow and depressing enough.

A lady I spoke to on the phone at Knightsbridge said "It's up to the embassy" whether it's OK to just bring a printout from my current GP that says I'm a newly registered patient and they have little information on me.

Does anyone have any experience they can share? I'm a little desperate.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Edit:

The embassy website (https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/medical-examination/) says nothing about "GP printouts" being required at all.

The KnightsBridge website (http://www.visamedicals.info/us-bring.asp) says you do need to bring it.

Not sure how to interpret this. Is the embassy going to be OK with me not bringing it? Is the printout only required for other visas or something!? This is so confusing.

I had my medical back in December and took no medical history / GP report with me. I believe it's only necessary if you have a long list of medical history, so if you've had one small op, you'll be fine. The fact you're from Sweden should make no difference so again you shouldn't need your report history.

I was in the same boat as you and panicking if I needed it, it'd be nice if it was a bit more black and white wouldn't it! I wouldn't worry though, as long as your medical history is as insignificant as you say it is, you won't need the summary. Best of luck with everything, both the medical and interview are way easier than you'd think!

Generally they want some kind of medical explanation of any illnesses, conditions, medications from a doctor who has treated you. For example cancer treatments, high blood pressure, asthma, depression....

If you don't report anything, then they don't know it happened. You should be fine taking nothing since you have nothing needing explanation.

Reasons to bring a report and or detailed letter from doctor: history of mental illness, depression, self-harm, serious medical conditions requiring long-term treatment and medications, serious hospitalization or surgery.

Reasons to not bring a report: if you have none of the above.

Printout you should bring: a record of all vaccinations you have received.

From experience: my husband brought a report detailing hospitalization and surgery he had involving an injury to his hand. He has many noticeable scars. He did discuss the injury with the doctor, she noted it and checked his mobility but did not even want to see the report. When Knightsbridge says something they are often vague and routinely give out false information.

Actually this is all incorrect and out of date.

Knightsbridge DO now have a REQUIREMENT to bring your medical summary from your GP containing any outstanding or serious incidents from your past.

That doesn't explain whether the Swedish history is needed, but as shown in the photo attached it is required to bring the summary to your medical.

I have this because I emailed them last week with a question about availability and this was included in their response, so it is completely up to date information.

As I stated before what Knightsbridge claims and what is actually true is two different things. But what is listed there is not really new, it's been a standard requirement for a long time to bring records or a letter detailing any serious medical conditions etc. People bring records and letters all the time for both serious and non serious things, and generally unless it is for the conditions I stated above (which is more or less what Knightsbridge is saying in their list vaguely), Knightsbridge continue to not care one bit. People often will read this list from Knightsbridge and misinterpret it to mean that EVERYONE must bring a summary from their doctor even if they have had none of the above, and the phone people at Knightsbridge are often misleading when queried. This leads patients on a wild goose chase with their NHS GP, often waiting for weeks or months to obtain documents. The OP for instance could obtain some sort of record regarding their appendectomy but Knightsbridge may not actually really want to see that at all. If the OP has nothing serious in their past and no ongoing medical condition requiring treatment, no disability or mental health issue then they are not required to bring a summary.

Wow.. okay, thanks for the image! That clears it up. Especially that it doesn't need to be the full history.

any idea what this summery needs to contain if you like me have nothing on going? And how to get my GP to write this out?

currently I'm really struggling to even talk to the GP. I just get vague / incomplete info from the reception staff! Who says it'll take three weeks to even get my record. Any advice on retrieving this summary?

Thank you again!

This entire process is driving me nuts. Thank you for your input. I think I'll just book the medical, ignore the summary and see what happens....

If you have nothing going on then there is no need for a summary. You could try to obtain a record of the appendectomy from your Swiss doctors but that might be difficult to do.

Thats not what is highlighted in Yellow AT ALL, and I think we should be very careful to provide the latest information to people going through the process currently, and not lead them astray with outdated information from when it came into effect.  This requirement is, in fact, so new, they even state it is not yet on the embassy website.  its not the same as when you went through the process.  No offense, I just think its important not to relay information that has changed since your experience.

They will have a medical summary readily available just by being registered there.  Simply ask them for a printout.  I applied for online access to my records and can see mine clearly from a phone app, and they will charge me £10 at my GP to have it printed on official letterheaded paper.  Just show them this email and ask them to print it out for you :-)  Better to be safe than sorry!

Sorry but I think thats a mistake.  Again, not being confrontational, but that poster went through this process in 2015.  They aren't aware of what Knightsbridge clearly state is a NEW REQUIREMENT.  This process can change very quickly, and I'd obtain the requested information, or be prepared to have a potential holdup, exactly as stated in the email I provided in the image.

Interesting, the receptionist I spoke to at my GPs seemed shocked at my request. Maybe I didn't use the word "summary". I'll go in in person tomorrow and see what they say.

whay you're saying makes sense. The image clearly states "a summary" COMMA AND ....

It will look similar to this (this is my record but from my online access... it will look the same however, and if you have no history, it will simply say exactly that, letting Knightsbridge know there are no issues 100%)
