Hi, we sent an enquiry  online to find out why it was taking so long. The USCIS SAID they are waiting for security checks and until they have them they can't proceed ahead.

Thanks. We send an online enquiry a couple days ago because it's been more than 60 days since they received our response to their RFE. It is nerve-wracking... :clock:

Good luck to both of us!

We went through the security checks (background checks), we received our NOA2 after a year and 10 months. the only thing we did is waiting but we kept calling the USCIS and we called our congressman and made infopass appointments. I wish you good luck.

So your security checks took more than a year? Thank you. do you have the right to work now? How long would I have to wait after getting married to be able to work. That's my biggest fear , being housebound.

That has just made me feel so ####### :-( that's means I might have to wait another year before being able to leave for the US

Our NOA1 is Feb the 1st... 156 days waiting.
We got the same speech from USCIS: we are in the background check since June the 5th.

We think it might be because my dad is a former diplomat, so I have travelled A LOT, lived in many countries. Funny thing, I only been in US once and I was in transit in the Miami airport...

It's a really frustrating situation, just to be waiting :(

To be fair, they filed a different kind of visa (I-130, spousal) which takes longer than the K1 in general. Still they waited longer than they should have due to the security check. The thing about it is that the length of the check varies case by case, so while they may have waited over a year, you might only be waiting a few weeks or months. Every case is different making it impossible to predict when things will finally be approved.

As to your question about working, you will need to file for employment authorization documentation (EAD) along with your adjustment of status after you get married. The processing time for the EAD is currently around 3-4 months.

Well so far we have examples of very long waiting periods here, has anyone here got thru the security clearance in less than 6 months?

Please share

We did, but we are probably not relevant. My finace works for the US government and he gets vetted every couple of years and as for me, I just got a tourist visa back in November so they did a background check then too so I assume that's why we got our approval in 3 months.

pharmacology is also under scrutiny under the Bio/Tech checks.
Once the checks are completed they will be repeated during AOS.

Thank you thats very helpful, may i just ask how long it tales roughly to recieve EAD? I've read somewhere between 3-5 months? I am aware that AOS will take a year for conditional then another year for permanent residency , am not so worried about that, its the EAD that matters more to me as a pharmacist to start working with, i wouldn't want to be doing nothing whilst my partner is working to support us.

Can you elaborate on the Bio/Tec check? Thanks

It currently take 90-120 days for the EAD/AP combo card, a few people wait a bit longer but roughly 3-4 months.

Read through the list in this link about Biomedical / Pharmacology.

How long is the EAD card valid for, one year or two years. Do we have to keep applying until conditional green card is given? Doesn't take approx one year after submitting AOS to receive green card anyway?
