CNN Blackmails Source of Donald Trump Wrestling Video

 

CNN threatened Tuesday to expose the identity of the Reddit user who had claimed credit for creating the spoof wrestling video that President Donald Trump tweeted on Sunday morning, showing him fighting the cable network.

After reporting Monday that the Reddit user, “HanAssholeSolo,” had a history of racist and antisemitic tweets, CNN tracked him (apparently, he is male) down and attempted to make contact with him by email and telephone.

On Tuesday, the Reddit user posted an apology (since deleted, but reprinted in full below, via Buzzfeed News).

CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski then reported Tuesday that CNN had “identified the man behind the account,” and had spoken with the Reddit user after he posted his apology. The Reddit user reportedly “asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family,” Kaczynski said.

Ultimately, CNN decided not to reveal his identity — not for safety reasons, but for political ones, apparently reward ing him for apologizing and recanting his views. In addition, CNN threatened to expose the Reddit user’s identity in future if it disapproved of his behavior or his statements — essentially blackmailing him:

CNN sparked a backlash Tuesday night after threatening to identify the Reddit user who claimed to have created a meme of Donald Trump body-slamming the CNN logo that the president later shared on Twitter.

CNN targeted Reddit user HanAssholeSolo because he took credit for the video and apparently had a history of making racist and anti-Semitic remarks online.

CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski opted not to identify the user “because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again.”

But Kaczynski then added that “CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change,” seemingly indicating that CNN would identify the user if he repeats his “ugly behavior” on social media. That sentence was widely interpreted as a threat. Kaczynski, who disputed that characterization, seemed especially upset that the Reddit user “was someone who shared an image of CNN reporters’ face with Stars of David next them.”

seems a bit sensationalist, but considering this is breitbart's take..the way i read it, cnn said they reserve the right to publish his name if he goes back on his apology and promise to stop trolling. to my knowlege, dude issued the apology and promise all on his own. and of course his once bros over at the donald got wind of it, they immediately turned their backs on him. personally i think cnn should focus on actual news, but i guess they gravitate toward drama just like trump. all about instantaneous, rabid attention.

Honestly I miss the days of 1-2 years ago when satire was just satire rather than sometimes-veiled butthurt over a lost election+excessive emotional investment into a single guy's persona.

 

Trump is the type of guy where one can tell endless jokes about (like when I came back to these forums after years of hiatus I looked forward to repeating Trump roast jokes), but under current climate it isn't very possible unless around the right people. I wouldn't want to give those still hurt about the election any validation that I approve of their tantrums.

This is the problem, one side sees the other as going too far.  The best we can do is point out the hypocrisy of the other side.

I guess I look at the size that started it.  I don't remember Trump starting the whole Russian collusion narrative.  In fact when it looked as if Hillary would win the election, the press was constantly asking if Trump would accept the results of the election.  Of course we know what happened and it appears as if the Leftist press still has not accepted the results, so they are in constant attack mode with their made up narratives.  As far as Trump fighting back, well, that is just his style, if I were in his shoes, I would probably do it differently, and I definitely wouldn't be using twitter, but he is his own man and he can do it any way he wants.

Go back to the garden of eden to figure out who started it.  Trump is the product and we need to look at the underlying factors and methods that got us here.
