Applying for Canadian Visa

My boyfriend(who is canadian) and I just recently got engaged and I would like to apply for a visa to live and work in Canada, and I am very unsure about this process and any help/suggestions are welcome. I basically would like to know, what to do now, I have my Nexus pass already and he and I travel back and forth on the weekends. We were told that we shouldn't make any plans regarding a wedding until this process has been started??

It depends on the laws in Canada.  Most people here are concerned with visas for USA.

Registered Nurse- Retired- I practiced in the areas of Labor & Delivery, Home Health, Adolescent Psych, & Adult Psych.

IT Professional- Retired- Web Site Design, Hardware Maintenance, Compound Pharmacy Software Trainer, On-site go live support, Database Manager, App Designer.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

OP please try these forums: http://www.roadtocanada.com/forums/index.php  They are for people who want to move to Canada

 

Unfortunately Canada does not have a fiance visa like the USA does.  You have to be married, or common-law.  But you can get married and move to Canada and apply inland.  It however takes longer to apply inland than outland.
