Please help me some advise.

I apply my AOS last on February 2014 by marriage..and I filed divorce to my husband on the same month my biometrics is on march 2015. And my divorce is not final on that year. I got my divorce on august 2015 and I request to the court to use my maiden name.coz I got threat to my ex husband.and the court approved it.

Here is the problem, my AOS approved last May 30 2017,and the interviewer read the court order to change my name to my maiden name.I'm using my married  name with the signature since I got here (2013).I got my green card last week my name change but my signature is still the same with my married name,I'm worried maybe I will deal with a lot of problem..especially I'm planning to visit my country next year!!

Please help!! 😦😦😦

What Visa did you enter on? Your profile says IR1/CR1 but you talk about AOS. Which normally does not happen if it is not completed before a divorce.

I enter US with a Spouse visa, and last month I got my permanent green card.because of what I've been through with my ex I request to the Court to use my maiden name, and they let me use it even in my new GC.

Thank you!!

Thank you so much!!

Do you think it will not be a problem if I travel out of the country?

A signature can be anything you want so it should not be a problem.

Now if it makes you sleep better at night go ahead and have it changed to what you want. If it was a uscis mistake they will correct for free and if it was your mistake you will pay fees for the change.

Of course, any errors on a green card should be corrected - no matter if it's just a signature. It's still an error and it could do possible harm if you ever have to sign anything. Since this is an USCIS error, you can get it corrected free of charge. Just file out I-90 and check box 3.d.

My point a signature is just that. If you want them to match then use the same one. If not use your new one. Or you can file out form I-190 to correct your green card. Whatever is comfortable for you

Did you have a court order saying you had to switch back to your maiden name? I've never heard of USCIS insisting on ppl going back to their maiden names.

But yes switch the card the signature is not accurate as that is no longer your name.

For example - When you sign for purchases they should look at your card name and signature to make sure they match to what you just signed. If they don't match they can can deny the purchase because the persons signature and card do not match. Think of CC theft.

Plus if indeed you did have a court decision to change your name with your divorce and you don't change everything you can be found in contempt. (not sure what they would do in divorce case for this but if it is part of your divorce you must comply)

Thanks for your response!!

I got court order saying to use my maiden name back, and the interviewer telling me that's a federal court that I need to follow..I insist to use my married name but he was pointing my court order.

And yesterday I went to immigration to ask my concern about my signature on my GC,he says that will be fine and it's only a signature and the important is my name on it,and I'm so confused

He could be thinking that not many ppl would look at the signature and in he is right that most will never see it. Get your drivers license and all you other ID changed since those are what most ppl will look at.

You can always see if it causes any issues when change your other ID if it does get it fixed.

I hope I don't get any issue about this when I'm visiting my country next year..the officer said it takes 6-8 months to corrected it!!
