I have researched the website but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. I know you have to show strong ties for a tourist visa but when do you submit the documentation? I see some posts that say they won't ask for or may not allow you to show anything at the interview and then other posts that say you can't submit documentation with the DS160.

You bring your supporting documents to the interview. You only hand them over if asked by the CO. Do not offer what you weren't asked, verbal answers as well as documents.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

They ask for the information they need, what documents do you have in mind?

My MIL is applying for a tourist visa in Jamaica. I was telling her about what I read on the site about documentation to show strong ties such as letter from work, proof of homeownership, bank info, etc. Just wasn't sure how she would present it. I thought maybe she could provide documents with the application like the immigrant visa since people say they decide the outcome before the interview. But sounds like it's only if they ask for it.

She works for a school so she's out for the summer and also has 2 other children in JA. However, she was denied once before bc one of the children's father (JA citizen), who she was trying visit at the time, lives in the states. She went to some travel agency who said they can help but to not put the child's father but instead but our address. But I told her the info will still be in the system for the previous application and it's more so about showing the strong ties.

Her job info goes on the application as well as her children details, did not think they ask about the children's fathers.

Maybe they asked about him bc that was who she was trying to visit at the time. Idk, was just trying to give her some info to help when she goes for the interview. Thanks for the replies!

Visiting the father of my child who is in the US illegally probably was not a positive.

Where did you get that from? He's here legally and travels back home annually. When asked the purpose of her visit that's who she said she was visiting. But bc he's single (as in not married) and doesn't have any other kids here and is still in a relationship with her, they told her she wouldn't have a reason to go back. She said they asked her who would keep her kids while she's gone and she said her sister. Maybe they thought she would just leave her kids🤔, and I'm sure that's not uncommon.

So is his child a USC?

No. They are all Jamaican. The father is in the US. My MIL has a child by him. She applied for a visa once before to visit him but was denied. She's not bringing the son. She just wants to visit us and him while she's (school) out for the summer. I was explaining to her she has to present strong ties that she will return but she said the last time she applied they just asked abt her visit and not necessarily for any proof of ties. Hence the reason I was asking abt when to present the evidence. She has ties - home, job, her 2 kids, bank acct, she's paying for her own trip (although not a tie), she's having surgery in Aug - all of which I realize can be left behind in the embassy's eyes and maybe not strong enough.

Everything is to be diclosed on the DS-160, and then if they need further proof of your documentation they will ask to see it.  You can be prepared to present it at the interview.

My MIL was in the middle of the process when JA became automated, so she had to re-do her DS-160, and submit it, so when she had her interview, they only looked at her letter from her employer that stated she only had the one month off, and she had to return to work.

For her job, she should take the last 3 paystubs as evidence. If she rents she can take the lease or if she owns she can take something indicating that. Did you had other things in mind?

When she gives the forms to the consul she can mention "I also have evidence of ties to Jamaica: Paystubs from my job as a teacher and lease of my place".

She should mention she has the information because some people are told "now I have already denied you, you should have presented evidence before". So it is not best to wait until they ask you because they might never ask.

She can take the evidence to the interview but there is no guarantee they will ask for it. They might deny her without even looking at it. When I applied for my tourist visa they didn't look at any of the things I brought.
