I just got my oath letter, Form N-445 , unfortunately I will be traveling out of the country and need to reschedule my oath ceremony.

It does say on the bottom 'If you cannot come to this ceremony, return this notice immediately and state why you cannot appear. In such case, you will be sent another notice of ceremony at a later date. You must appear at an oath ceremony to complete the naturalization process'

Problem is it's not clear to me where to return the notice with the explanation. Do I return it to the address on the envelope (which is a Missouri processing center), or the location of my oath ceremony (which is a high school) or my field office where I had my interview?

I'm confused. Thank you for your help in advance!

In the same boat with you:

I finally took a guess and sent it to where I had the interview.  That was a week ago, no change on my case on the website yet, and nothing through the mail.  Getting nervous, my trip starts in 13 days...

It appears my guess was correct.  Yesterday I received a notice that my oath ceremony was "cancelled" and that they will reschedule under a different notice.  So, mail it to the field office where you had your interview.  It took 13 days for me to receive the notice back in the mail from when I put my letter in the mailbox.

I think it really depends on each individual's situation, as has been discussed here many times.

Some locations are really backed up and rescheduling may delay the Oath Ceremony for several months, others just for a few weeks. If there's no huge pressure/rush to become naturalized, then by all means, reschedule the Oath Ceremony. Rescheduling a trip (especially an international trip) can be extremely costly and an incredible inconvenience! They understand that people have lives and things come up...

Just weigh the pros and cons and make the best decision for yourself.

You will return the letter to office in which you will actually have your interview, so in your case, the high school. It may be helpful to include some evidence of your travel plans, for example flight tickets if they are available. Good luck and please let me know how it goes.

I just got notice that I have a new oath date, it appears to be in September (didn't yet receive the actual letter in the mail).  Took about 7 weeks since I sent my letter to request the reschedule, and 5 weeks since I received the notice that my first date was "cancelled" (see post from July 11 above).

Seems like the process is fairly easy and quick here in Texas at this time; just not well explained anywhere.

Hi there. I know it is really an old post put did you send the mail as a snail mail? My FIL received his notice for oath ceremony yesterday and it's too far away. We live in PA and was interviewed in PA but his oath ceremony is scheduled in WI which is odd. Due to financial constraints, it is very hard for him to travel to WI and would like reschedule his oath ceremony at a closer date.

Yes, I used regular snail mail, and mailed it to the location where I had my interview.  I may have just gotten lucky, as it was a guessing game.

It is very odd that the ceremony would be in Wisconsin... perhaps that was first available date anywhere?

Hi thank you for taking your time to reply us back. We really appreciate it. I know we were shocked about the location. If you don't mind asking did you remember what you put as a reason why you need to reschedule? We are just unsure if financial reasons will be enough :(

I don't have the letter itself at my fingertips, but I was just factual and honest.  We have a trip long planned, scheduled and paid for and will not be in the country on this date, so need to reschedule.  I don't see why "we can't afford a trip to Wisconsin for my father in law and someone to accompany him" wouldn't be good enough.  But I'm not a lawyer, so what do I know, right?
