An SSN is yours for life - you will use that number. If you want an updated name you just go and apply for a name change and you'll get a new card (same number) new name.

Like above, same number. When you get a GC you go back and get a new SSN card (same number) they just remove the DHS authorization wording on it.

11/23/2016 : POE - Dallas, Texas

From sending of I-129F petiton to POE - 146 days.

 

02/03/2017 - Married

06/01/2017 - EAD/AP Combo Card Received in mail

12/06/2017 - I-485 Approved

Thank you! So I can apply for updated SSN only when I get my GC? 

Also, can I start working soon with my current SSN (maiden name)?

You can work with your EAD and SSN. You can update your name with your EAD - what @Ben&Zian meant was that with the GC you can get an SSC that doesn't have the writing on it that it's only valid with DHS authorization.

I'd like to clarify - do I need to change my SSC with a new name before I start working, or can I start work with EAD and my existing SSN?

You can start working with it. Your employer might request a document to show name change to prove that it is you - but really if I were you I'd just apply for a new card... it doesn't cost anything

You can start work with your EAD, most employers however ask for your SSN. It is better you apply to remove the DHS wording on your card and change the name at the same time. That way, you don't have to worry about it ever .

S/he can't have the DHS wording removed until s/he gets a greencard. S/he can change the name with the EAD though, which would be a good thing to do.
