Resume Question

In the hopes of getting the EAD or who knows even the GC in a couple months, I been trying to convert my c.v. to an american version.

Taking into account that both my degrees come from a spanish university, plus another year in a french university, and the little work experience i have is also in Spain...whoever reads my cv. may wonder if i am allowed to work in the US.

Should i mention my immigration status (when i can work that is) just in case?WHat have you guys done with yours?

Also since spanish is my first language...what should i put next to it?Native language?

Should I just explain it in a cover letter?

Geez all this to end up being a (with the due respect) a Wal-mart greeter

Absolutely not. Employers may safely assume you are entitled to work here when they get your resume. If they want to hire you, will you be required to provide proof anyway. I've reviewed resumes of international workers and didn't see anything about immigration status on those resumes (nor did I expect to).

Better to put "fluent".

I guessed they would assume I am allowed to work but i did not want my resume to be dismissed because i did not specify i was...

I will disagree with some of the above postings. I am a college professor working with international students applying for work in the US. Most of them are on student visas and are hoping an employer will sponsor them. We always tell them to put visa status on their resume, especially if they can work without an employer sponsoring them. They are much more likely to get a job if they can already legally work in the US. So if you have a green card or EAD, I would put it in big bold type on the top.

This is just my opinion but is based on seeing international students job hunting.

I wonder how it will affect me too; my education was in the US, my job experience from 1997 to 2001 was in the US, but 2001 to 2007 was in the UK; I've spent more of my working life here than there. I hope they don't assume I'm a limey.

I know I put a line in mine that said something to the effect of being authorised to work in the US, just so nobody would think I was looking for H1B sponsorship or anything.

I know this is off topic and I do apologise to the OP but....in the same train of thought here when disclosing one's immigration status...could that also be applied when applying for a mortgage with your USC spouse? It seems that for some banks this is not a problem. For others, it's a case of automatic denial. Do we HAVE to disclose that my husband is an immigrant without PR status yet (even though he is AOS pending)?

My resume shoes studies in Venezuela and England, and work experience in both countries as well... I got a job within 3 weeks of getting here... Right now I am hunting again and expect the same sort of reception I had before...

Agreed. I did this in the last line of my cover letter, stating that I am eligible to work in the U.S.

I put a line on my resume in the "qualifications" section, and also in my cover letter.. I got a job so i guess it worked alright..
