I think Tesla owners have more money than time and will have a charger at home. Would you rather stop at a charging station or just drive out of your garage?  The 400khz has a value of around 40$

I agree with you relative to the Models S and X, but with the 3 the buyer could be different.  The 3 could be going to more single car families/individuals as well as those that may not have a garage, or assigned parking.  This is why I contend the launch of the 3 will be a big test for Tesla.

I know someone who has an electric BMW but still needs something regular when for example he come up here.

average ticket price of a 3 will be 40,000 or twice a Ford Fusion.

Agreed, it is not a Chevy Spark, or other equally entry level car, but with hundreds of thousands of reservations and many people jumping on the EV train to save the planet, there could be a lot of people not living in single family dwellings and not having easy access to overnight home charging.  To me this is one of the big issues with EVs globally as many people all over the world do not live the way we do in the US or Canada.  I know my inlaws live in an apartment building in Krasnoyarsk and even if they bought an EV, they have no place to park or charge it.

I am sure the first Gas Engine auto owner faced similar issues.  It is  a chicken an egg scenario.  10 states have already added on a tax to electric vehicles to fund a network of service points for EV. Every Walgreens being built has an EV station. My employer has 3 + charging stations at each campus.  California is selling electricity to EVs at a special rate of 3cents

Only if you know how to use it.  Funny story, back in my volunteer FD days, occasionally we would get called out to help stranded motorists during a snowstorm (that was my SUV phase btw.).  Long story short, we get called out to help this television news producer  that got stuck at 3 am heading into the studio probably to cover the snow storm.  He was driving an SUV, but had no idea how to use it.  When I asked him if he tried 4 Low to get through the drift (he was actually still on the road stuck in a drift) his reply was what is 4 Low.  We pulled him free since he was still in the roadway and not in a ditch and we got called back 30 minutes later for his truck now stuck in a ditch.  We drove him to the studio (another 1/2 mile) and told him to call a tow truck to get the vehicle out.

It is indeed a test for Tesla for for EVs in general. California's ZEV calls for 4M EVs by 2030, and in addition to EVs, there are new initiatives for hydrogen and other fuels. That should give Tesla and other EV companies the leverage they need to get going. At $40K a pop, it's well within popular reach, and those superchargers need to materialize as fast as gas stations in the 1920s. It will be interesting to see how this will all play out.

Could they give one to each Undocumented Prospective Citizen as part of any settlement? Should do it.
