Applying for AOS - K1 visa holder

Hello everyone!

In a couple of days I will be getting married under my K1 visa and I would like to send the AOS package right away. I saw that they are asking for my birth certificate and I was wondering if someone could tell me if it has to be translated by someone certified or if I could translate it myself.

You can do so yourself for AOS if you're competent in both English and the document's native language. You need to provide a statement as well:

Hello Geowrian!

Glad to hear from you again  with competent do you mean that I speak both languages fluently and so with that I am capable of translating documents or do I have to have an official certificate that says I can do so? I want to try to do everything fine from the beginning to I don't get rfe's

Competent is not strictly defined, but it does not require a certification to perform or a notary for USCIS. Fluent is sufficient. A common confusion is that when dealing with an embassy, they may require a professional translation and/or notarized document...but USCIS does not. Just be sure to translate the entire document, and provide the language referenced in the link above on the translated document (not a separate sheet).

Hi, I will advised you don't do it yourself. I used DAY Translation Inc. Though they are located in a different city, about 4 hours from me, I scanned the documents and sent to them via email. After the translation, you may choose to get a certified copy via email attachment or FedEx. I received mine via email attachment. They did a good job and included a free certificate of accuracy. In case you want to use them, tell them your friend who translated from Greek to English on the month of May told you they charged him either $30 or $40 for words not more than 250 and the certification was free. I am not sure if they now charge for certification. They are cheap, fast and did a perfect job.
