I wrote this a while ago and I'm cc it here. It's not specific to the interview, but mostly next steps:

Here’s what I started doing:

- translated my birth certificate with an official translator, since I believe we’ll need to marry

- started looking for my vaccinations card (specially my kids one) and will try to take the ones on the embassy website I haven’t had so far (hepatitis, tetanus) 

- filled out the affidavit of support form and will take to my American fiancé to sign when we see each other next month. I made two: one with his last years income and another with this years expected income. Made him aware I’ll need his W-2 when it’s ready in January or I’ll need last years W-2, depending on the interview timing and made him aware of the other docs we’ll need 

- sent my landlord notice I’ll be leaving my flat by end of march (I’m required to sent previous notice) and started selling stuff I don’t need 

- ordered vacuum bags for the move

My SO is coming to visit next weekend. He's going to be here for like, 22 days. Some of it is for work, but most of it is just for the holidays. I've never worried about him getting turned away at the POE, but with the timelines getting pushed back into January I'm worried that they'll be weird about it.

I'm in a similar boat.  Tiger is on the first of his three flights to me right now!  He has plenty of documentation proving this is just a visit for the holidays and would have to encounter a SERIOUS hardass at LAX to get turned away, but that doesn't stop me from worrying, of course.

Yeah definitely.  Like I said, he'll have tons of evidence, and GASP HOW ABNORMAL TO WANT TO VISIT YOUR FIANCEE FOR THE HOLIDAYS but with the way things over there are going right now?  Who the heck knows, really.  But I do have the reasonable expectation it'll be smooth sailing for him.  I'll know by tomorrow morning what's up.

It's been about that long for me and my fiance, too.  We are planning to meet up somewhere in late December, though we're not sure exactly where yet. It will cut into my wedding budget, but since he's from a high fraud country and we haven't had a ton of in-person time together, I hope it will bolster evidence of our ongoing relationship.

Now that you mention it, do documents with the Hague Apostille need to be oficially translated into English?

The apostille only serves as a public notary, it doesn’t translate the contents of the document but rather states that it is a true copy or that someone’s signature is legit. My birth certificate was in Portuguese so I had to translate it with an official translator into English. Hope this helps!

TIGER IS THROUGH CUSTOMS!!!!!!!! 

I am all but fainting with relief.  He was very late in getting back to me and I was having a complete panic party that they were giving a hard time and then he'd miss his connection and blah blah blah but no he is okay, everything is okay, one more flight to go and I pick him up at JFK tonight.

 

SO RELIEVED.

Not sure what document you are talking about since your profile states you are from Spain? But most Dutch municipalities give out International documents at the same fee rate as a Dutch one. I just had a copy of my birth certificate and marriage license (which has my divorce registered on it) issued in international format (English, French and some other languages) and it didn't cost me anything extra. An official translation will be more expensive I wager.

We barely got to speak before he had to board his connecting flight, but he said "no issues."

 

For others' reference, he had a signed letter from me (stating he would be staying at my residence, for these dates, for purposes of visiting for the holidays, here is my phone number if you need to contact me), a letter from his job confirming his continued employment, a copy of his freshly-renewed car registration, and a copy of his lease agreement.  I don't yet know if he was actually asked to produce any of these documents or if he simply said he was visiting his fiance and they let him through.

I'm not going to be around on the forums much for the next several weeks, but I'll update about his experience when I can in case it helps anyone else.
