Oh not being able to work is driving me crazy. Hi all I was a March filer. I have been in the US with my fiance for a month now. We get married on the 9th of December. I told my fiance I feel like I am not contributing to the household. He said hun but you are you cook delicious meals for us. I said I suppose. He said I know I know you are bored. lol He makes enough no problem for us to both live on but still I hate not having my own money. I put in volunteer apps a few places and hope to hear back soon. Really would like to volunteer with the library system here since I was a librarian back home cause that would help especially if I apply for a job with them once I can work. :)

Hang in there you guys will get your NOA2's soon and then everything moves so fast. I got my NOA2 August 9th and interviewed October 11th and moved to the states October 28th.

I have been following and your story, being that your are a Manitoba girl and I am going through what you are, almost verbatuim!

Everything seems to take so long, but at the same time, it's moving along fast!

Yeah before you know it you have moved. I was very homesick a couple days ago and called my Mum. She said funny how that is you were crying because you missed your fiance and now you are crying because you miss us. PBBT but she is right. I thought I would be ok because I spent 15 years living 10 hours away and saw my family once a year sometimes not even that but then I moved in with Mum to save money and lived with her for 2.5 years and my sister lived down the street with her hubby and daughter, my Aunt lived down the street the other way and I had numerous cousins in the area. To go from all that to nothing was hard but I am made of tough stuff. :D I am sure if I could work it would be better. lol My fiance feels bad that I stay home day after day. I do go out and take the bus somewhere or just go for a walk or head to the library to search out new books to read.

From one librarian to another:

Good on ya, mate.  This too shall pass.  As you say, you are tough, and you will get through.  Bonus: it's a lot easier to visit Canada than Australia!!!

Sooooo Day 126 here.  I don't know how to go that sticker, but I loved it!

From what I read in the June and July thread, July filers can expect to have a response within 160 days, I hope that's correct, fingers crossed ppl, one more month to go!!

Just got back from a holiday with the fiance... can't wait to have our own house and stop this madness of travelling all the time and always being poor due to all the flight tickets.

Meanwhile would appreciate tips on what to do (without spending any money or very little) in the months we'll be waiting for our employment authorization. I'll be in NYC but I guess there are general tips like where can we sign up for flights and train discounts? Wouldn't mind travelling on day trips while my fiance is at work. Thanks everyone!

160 days? It will be really cool! We are on 137 days. I hope it takes not more than 40-50 days.Because now i have a feelings like we just stopped) Anyway...will be what will be)

Day 145 here...

I'm thinking about to use my free time (once I'm in the USA waiting for my work authorization) as going to the gym... look for some hobbies (I have tons of them) I use to have my own craft store here in Holland, so I can use some free time to be creative...but deep inside I know I will get bored at some point... Maybe start some study online...

and I also do lots of arts and crafts and baking. I will re-invent my recipes as the ingredients are sooo different in the US.

plus don't forget - all these things to do, get a SSN, get a car, driving licence, update CV, find your way around, adjust to life, .....

N-400: 12/05/2023 (confirmed fingerprints are re-used)

Interview scheduled for: 05/09/2024

do you get the discounts at that point already if you sign up for CC?

I wonder how long it takes to get the work permit... it better not be too long again

I think all I need is SSN, but I'll be checking cause I need to show I'm a California resident. So fingers crossed, the worst case it will be after EAD, and I'll work and go to classes at nights.. I don't know why but I feel like I should do ASL

Wow driving license! Do you think we'll have to start classes, or can we somehow convert our drivers license?

And gym, definitely, I plan on joining a gym and doing classes every day in the morning, and cook for my fiance and I in the evenings. But I also feel like I will get bored of it after the first month...

Is Community College for free? I would love to study but cannot spend any money with that since there are other priorities. I know https://www.coursera.org has some interesting courses for free, I've done a few, from Harvard, Yale, etc but would also like to find out free language courses, or conversation, if anyone knows it.

driving test is about 25 dollars as far as I remember.

you don't have to take classes, you can do online things for free. if you need classes, you are allowed to drive with someone that hs a licence and the written test you can do in several languages. I'd be careful with that ;) I used to live in LA and did the test in german first, but it seemed to be google translation and I failed haha luckily you can do the writing test 3 times in the same day! so I did in English and passed....

regarding the English classes. I also remember that there were plenty of free English classes to sign up for. you can find out on the local websites from your area.

community college is not free, but a loooooot cheaper if you are US resident and not a foreigner. my friend (german) did her education as a full time student in a comm college and her parents paid over 30k a year, the same class had locals and they paid 4k.

but again - in our case, as a foreigner becoming a greencard holder, I am not sure at what stage we'd get the discounted rates also

I had hopes for all of these things , as well as go house shopping and enroll my fiancée in a community college for the spring semester. Had hopes to spend Christmas and New Year’s, here, together. I was prepared for a six month journey, but I assumed it would be from beginning to visa in hand. It’s now day 148, and there seems to be no end in sight. USCIS is dragging their feet.

You're not kidding.  My fiancé had done copious amounts of research on this entire process and there was no way the absurd degree of backed-upness/skeleton crew-ness/laziness/whateverness we're witnessing could have possibly been predicted based on previous years' performance.

I am still appalled that there is no oversight, no way to enforce servicing standards, absolutely nothing at all.  The complete and utter lack of accountability is just astonishing to me.  This would not fly in any other venue whatsoever except maybe some kind of lazy complacent non-responsive dictatorship type of situation.

Today marks one week until Tiger gets here for a month-long visit.  I'm glad I'll have his company, at least, to help pass the time until SOMEthing happens, but wow.  There just are no words.

Hello guys!

I went to gym almost 2 month ago and I want to say that it definitely helps! When I get upset or feel frustration I go to gym and give this feelings go out)

The best period came for my work I will have a lot of work and I will be looking  for more of it. Because when I work I forget about everything)

If not looking at Igor's list I'm very patience but when I go there and go to timeline it make me sad. We couldn't catch our date-it goes forward all the time)

But. I'm sure that this test Universe gave us for understanding something on our way. And for value our relationship in a future🙏🏼
