Hi fellow July filers! I'm looking for some advice on filing taxes keeping in mind my future i-134 that I will have to fill out. I am hired as an independent contractor for an online teaching company. I have a contract with that company and get paid through them, but am technically self-employed. I was looking at taxes and saw that I would have to pay in around $3,000. I talked to a tax lawyer who said I could start an LLC which would make is so I wouldn't have to pay the self-employment taxes. He also said I can claim this as foreign income as I lived the entire year in the Philippines with my fiance. With his plan, I'd have to pay next to nothing. However, I'm slightly worried about them not liking this when looking at my tax returns for the i-134. Does anyone have thoughts on this, previous experience, or suggestions? TIA!

Thanks!! No we didn't have informed delivery, it just arrived in the mail and we didn't hear anything else online. Fingers crossed that you hear something soon

I woke up this beautiful Sunday doing the usual VJer morning mobile phone ritual. For some reason I scanned my email instead of saying good morning to my fiance and boy oh boy Informed Delivery did deliver! After a minute of internally screaming, waterfalls of tears followed and let's just say my fiancé had a mini heart attack when I called him on the phone crying like a little child. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

 

This has been one helluva rollercoaster ride of excitement, eager waiting, anger, frustration nonchalance and a lot of internal screamings. I would like to thank everyone here who has been keeping me sane and although I lurk most of the time the comforting words you have for me in the few instances I chirp are very much appreciated. ❤ 

 

@Naes and @JSCGPV for all the work you do here. Bombarding us with facts and numbers make my chubby anxious heart sit still. A BIIIIG thank you and virtual hugs from the Philippines!

@Naes   @JSCGPV need a little bit of help with one question for the Form 134. Regarding question for VALUE OF MY OTHER PERSONAL PROPERTY on the Sponsor's section.. what does that cover? your current house, jewelries, cars etc?

I think yes it covers those, but I am not sure about the houses.

I think theres a part about if you live in your house or not... but I am not sure about this it was too complicated so we gave up

I would assume you'd leave out real estate from that question, since the next one inquires about any real estate you own and how much it's worth and how much equity you have in it.  I left my apartment off of that question, but I did include my car and an educated guess on pretty much everything else I own.
