Updating the happenings as of date here so someone might chime in with good pointers for all.

Things are confusing with the processes sometimes. I am on day 91 today. I raised SR for EAD on day 77. Called them again today and asked to raise another SR as it has not crossed 90 days officially. The lady was not helpful and quoted the current processing date on the website as May 10th.

I knew some people there are not very helpful so hoping for someone better, I called USCIS again. This time luckily someone nicer was on the phone and she helped me raise another SR for the EAD

But here lies the concern - I asked her to raise one for AP too. But then they all quote the date as May 10th. But I dont understand that the processing dates are same for EAD as well, so why do they create SR for EAD but go and look at the processing dates for AP?

Has anyone else faced a similar situation?

I believe that MOST people apply for EAD/AP at the same time (not always). So my guess is that the processing dates would be similar if not the same.  They typically will arrive as a combo card. I know my husbands EAD is a combo card for his AP as well.

I know the combo part. My concern is if they dont check the dates while raising SR for EAD, then why check for AP? The person I spoke to refused to raise an SR :( (even though the date on the website is as of 31 Aug.

Sorry I am having trouble understanding the question :(

I know if you have a service request already in you can't file another one. When I filed a SR online it required it be at the 90 day mark for the EAD also.  The first person at 77 days probably just wasn't really doing you any service on the phone or really looking at your case fully. I only filed my service requests online and only for the EAD so I am not sure what is going on with the phone in SRs. :(

Actually the concern is that when i call to ask them to raise an SR for EAD, they did it for me. (1st SR was on 77 day, today on 91 day I asked them to raise again and they did. I couldnt do it myself on the website)

BUT when I asked them to raise the SR for a difference case num i.e. AP, they went back on checking the processing dates and said they cant as it was withing normal processing time. My question is basically whats the point of that '90 days' if they are not gonna even raise an SR. I had NOT raised any SR for AP yet.

The processing dates on their website is May 10th and May 14th for AP and EAD, so if they can raise for EAD then why not for AP?

I hope I could clarify it better here now :)

Just sooo stressed out as I really need a job and also to travel at the same time. I was already close to 90 day period so never thought of expediting the cases :(

Like i said before, EAD/AP are coming on the same card with category "C09P" so don't worry about raising SR for AP.

I guess AP normally take longer time to process, so the officer did't allow you raise SR for AP. Since you apply EAD and AP together  they will most likely get approved at the same time.

I had the same experiences like you. When I called USCIS about my EAD passed the 90 days mark, the officer said it will be processed soon. 90 days is just a goal for processing EAD. So I was hoping I can raise a SR for AP.  The officer wasn't very helpful. He didn't help raising another SR for EAD or AP. He said AP is within regular processing time. And I called again the next day to request to speak to a tier 2 officer. She helped me to raise the second SR for EAD with expedite request. EAD and AP got approved in a week. Good luck!

I just received the EAD and AP combo card. Hooray! Finally, stressful waiting is over.

Same as other VJer said, it's really helpful to speak to a tier 2 officer. If the first officer is not helpful, and try again. Eventually, you will find a good officer who is competent enough to help!  Hope everyone can get their cards soon!  Good luck!

Hi

Like what others said, if you applied both EAD & AP at the same, there is a possibility that you will get a combo card like mine. When I filed my SR (77th day), I asked them the status of my AP, the lady said that there is a three months delay of processing AP applications. In my mind, okay then I will just wait since the important for me is the EAD (so i can get a job). I was surprised to get a combo card. :)

and oh they will let you have another SR once the first one is beyond 30 days from request date.
