Same here, my medical will expire on March, I'm hoping to have interview before my medical expires.

My husband had his medical exam in December 2016. If our AOS interview is after this then we have to get another medical exam? Ours likely won't take place until next summer because of our local office.

No. As long as it was not expired by the time you applied for AOS you should not need another medical.

This depends on your local office - I have seen many people here in MN have to repeat the medical or get a new medical transcript from a local cs as they are so far beyond the date of the original medical (its taking a year here to process AOS)

They just asked for proof of financial hardship so I sent them all types of bills, job offer letter and statements from my bank accounts showing low funds.

Out of curiosity, when interviewing for jobs did you say you were waiting for EAD approval?

Thanks

Hey guys, I'm worried that I may have prolonged my EAD unnecessarily!

I read that when you file for your AOS, you're also filing for your EAD. You can also file for your EAD separately if you want to, to essentially expedite the process, but you have to pay extra and you're most likely going to receive it around the same time you would've if you hadn't done the separate file. So, I opted to just file for the AOS. Had my biometrics appt on August 18th and the USCIS website says "ready to schedule interview" since August 21st.

I had initially thought, like someone else further up on here, that the whole process takes 3 months. Then I saw that my office (D.C.) takes ~25 weeks on average between the biometrics appointment and the interview and freaked out a little - we were acting as if we only had to be poor for 3 months! But now I see both people on here as well as on the K1 flow chart that receiving the EAD and the AOS happen separately. Is that only if you file for the EAD separately?

If so, I suppose I'll file for the EAD now, but will I have to do another biometrics appointment? Or am I better just waiting and not screwing the whole process up...? I'm so lost. :'(

Yes, you prolonged your EAD unnecessarily. That being said, 25 weeks is pretty fast, many local offices are in the 30-50+ week range for interviews.

As for the EAD, the EAD application is free when filed concurrently with a processing I-485. You can still file for it for free even now, you simply submit the form and include a copy of the NOA1 from your I-485, there will be no further charges.

Processing time on the EAD is running around 110 days right now (which isn't short). You will not screw anything up by filing for it as it is not handled by your local office (EAD is processed by the NBC). That being said, if you get your interview and are approved before you get the EAD, then they will deny your EAD application because it is no longer necessary. Don't freak out if this happens, it is normal. On the flip side, if your local office takes longer than usual and you get your EAD first, you have every right to work while your local office does their thing.

To me it is a no-brainer, file for the EAD. The only thing you have to lose is the time it takes to fill out the application form and copy your NOA1 from the I-485.

Status for the I-765 changed today to 'New Card being Produced' - this was done via an expedite for a pending job offer.

This is awesome. @Adam&Allison I'm wondering if I should start applying for jobs and being clear up from with the interviewer about my situation. How did you do in your case? Did you let them know that you needed a letter from them so you could expedite your EAD?

Another question I have, Does the EAD and AOS are processed at our local office or only AOS is processed at a local Office and EAD is processed at a central location NBC?
