well yes, obviously it was not professional. But think it this way, we are all humans and....how many of us ever had met transgender person? sucks to say, but there are millions people are coming to Taiwan to see those transgenders and most of us will feel awkward no matter how hard they will be trying to ignore that and act like usual. All thanks to politics and media. People are so scared to talk about things like same-sex relationships, transgenders,  racial problems, so over time it became a veto to talk about it. Not mention the fact, that most of the time homosexual people are trying to make a problem and yell about discrimination when this is not a case. A LOT of people don't know how to handle situations like that and are just getting lost. One of the way to look at it , he was probably trying break a little bit of ice, Since a girl mentioned that officer was likely new, he was super nervous. How many of us are not controlling whatever is coming from our mouth when we are nervous?

1. It is not trans people’s job to answer questions about their bodies to strangers. They aren’t sideshow attractions, they are humans.

2. Homosexuals are still facing discrimination on a regular basis, as well as trans people. Trans women of color are disproportionately affected by fatal violence. These are real issues.

3. You said yourself it was unprofessional. He’s new and training, sure. But if people don’t complain and make a note of when he’s behaving in an incredibly unprofessional way, how is he going to get better? How is he going to learn?

4. All this aside, I feel pretty certain that if a USCIS agent asked you about YOUR genitals in an interview, out would probably be upset about it. Why should she have to deal with that because she’s trans?

Fellow July 2017 filers — I could use your assistance!

For reference, I applied on July 14/17 and my case has been “we are scheduling your interview” since Sept 21/17.

My Canadian passport expires in a few days. So, to get a new one while in the US, I need to send my original birth certificate and current passport, via mail, to Canada. The expected turnaround time for my new passport and receiving my birth certificate back is 4-6 weeks.

In the event I get a notice for an i-485 green card interview, this means that I’d be without either of those documents for 4-6 weeks, and unable to bring them to the interview.

I found a copy of someone’s I-485 interview/appointment request from Sept 2015 and it clearly states, verbatim:

YOU MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH YOU:

- Your Birth Certificate
- All travel documents used to enter the United States, including Passports, Advance Parole documents and I-94s

Failure to bring the below listed items will result in the denial of your application.

So, naturally this has me concerned. Is it better for me to let my Canadian passport expire, wait for my green card interview and green card approval, then get a new Canadian passport? Everything I read says USCIS doesn’t care if you have an expired passport.

I went to the Canadian consulate and they said they can expedite the process for me (a few days plus maintaining my original birth certificate) only if I provide official documentation proving a legitimate urgency/emergency situation.

Would someone mind sending me a screenshot of their recent 797c I-485 interview notice (with any info you’d like blocked off, of course)? It’d be super helpful for me to show this to the Canadian consulate since the one I provided them is nearly three years old.

Any and all insight is greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone.

Question, Is there any way I can get a copy of my NOA for I-485? I couldn't find it anywhere! I have the NOAs for EAD and AP but AOS is nowhere to be found. UNLESS I sent it with my RFIE. I have to renew my EAD card. Help!

Hey there I'm sorry this happened to you. That's why it's always important to make copies and/or scan all the mail you receive. Is there a chance you made a copy?

If not I would either make an infopass appointment or go here https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/Intro.do

You do need your I-485 NOA in order to renew otherwise your fee won't be waived. I just renewed mine and I sent copies of my NOAs with my packet. I really hope you get this resolved. (F)

I know! I am thinking I really did send it with my RFIE because my EAD and AP NOAs are in my documents. I do have a copy of my RFIE letter for I-485 though, you think that will work??

Hello

I just asked a friend who works in Canada immigration processing applications about your passport validation question.  She said you have to must have a valid passport. I would try and get one ASAP.

Officer asked for some items we did not have available on hand,   then wanted to speak to spouse alone. and ask her more questions,  then I waited 1 hour till spouse was sent out then 2 hours later and officer came back and said we were approved and gave us a typed letter.  but as we walked out, letter was for different applicant., either way  Green Card arrived exactly 5 business days after interview along with online updating 1 day after interview with tracking info from Missouri and all info was correct.  All is well so now I can focus on renewing her Drivers License and she can go home for a family visit soon.

I had my interview today! So the officer seemed new, he was just wearing a poloshirt, and not a formal buttoned longsleeves with tie that I imagined him to be. Lol. Also on the door there was a "" Training" sign. He was fine he was nice, but I got an RFE for medical cause he said the medical i submitted was more than a year FROM THE DATE I ARRIVED here in USA. So I would need a new one.

Secondly, I answered one or two of his question wrong. He asked for the date of my Husband got divorced and the date he last visited. I mixed up the months. Smh. (can this be a ground for denial?). I have submitted everything tho. Bank statements of us, tax returns, insurances. Im just afraid my answers could get us in trouble.

By the way, I am a transgender girl and changed name through marriage. So when he looked at our papers he got confused and scratched his head, and was like "Who is *old name*?" I was like it was my old name. Then he was like "Oh man, your application is a MALE and you showed up like a girl,/you confused me." Then he started to look at our docs and even called someone else to look at our case. Like my gender is a big deal, while eveything on our papers was Male. So I dont see the confusion. Then he started talking about our marriage. Asked if I had surgeries already, and all of a sudden he got curious he even opened up as to how a non op trans make out, like SERIOUSLY?!!

Anyways, He is gonna send me a letter for medical stuff. I just hope I dont get denied. My husband is so worried about my wrong answers on the dates. Lol

Good luck everyone!!!

That was highly inappropriate. I would have asked for a supervisor right away. I would have also asked the supervisor to tell me how to submit a complaint to Mr Cisna directly. I would paused after that, and waited for them to issue an approval on the spot.

You missed the opportunity to educate that guy. In all honesty, in his mind he was trying to show you how open minded he is. There is a good chance that he found you attractive to begin with. Then was thrown off because you're transgender and attractive to him. That's probably something he had never considered.

I would definitely reach out to your Senator Joe Donnelly. https://www.donnelly.senate.gov Tell them you are kindly asking to ensure that you are treated fairly. You have deep concerns because (...) Then, outline everything that was said. Do not use any inflammatory language. Keep it sober. Request a FOIA and request the video of your interview. If that officer is in training, your interview was likely recorded.

Then watch your green card be approved.

It is really important to check the website regularly. Call and speak with another officer immediately. I guess you missed your interview. If it was rescheduled, he would have sent u copy by fax. Call back immediately and see if the second officer will tell you the same thing. Goodluck.
