My EAD expires in September, and I plan on filing for the renewal within a couple of next weeks. As of now, it takes 6-8 months to get a renewed EAD card.

@seattlejord, I am very happy for you that you are so mentally strong to bear with this wait. I wish I had nerves to not worry about that! Anyways, I wish you and all of us who are waiting, to receive our green cards ASAP.

P.S. I forgot to mention one more point - the results of the medical exam are valid one year after the date of filing for AOS. It means that we must to redo the medical and waste several hundred dollars on that useless "exam." It's unfair.

I got my EAD card dated from October 2017 last week. In 4 months I am going have to apply for renewal. Sucks. Would it be nice for USCIS send me a completely new card with moving my expiration date 6 months further? Yes. Absolutely. But they don't give a ####. All they care is how to take people's money and provide service that cost us our own health from being constantly nervous. They are charging even more money now for AOS filers. As for health care exam... That sucks as well. The last time I had to pay 300 dollars for a doctor so he could put all documents I had from exam in my country in brown envelope, seal it and give it back to me. He didn't even checked me or anything.  It's a rip off. Hopefully we all will get our cards by then.

First and foremost, it sets back your clock for citizenship. Your time of a residency starts from the moment when your green card is approved.

For K1's, your time of residency starts the day you get married, not the moment when your green card is approved.

2 years and 9 months from the day you get married, right?

Are you sure? Where did you find this information?  The thing is you can be married outside the country for 5 years but they does not give you a privilege of getting citizenship if you don't need it. And on forums they all are saying that the clocks start from the date on your GC. Even calculator on uscis website (I believe it was there) was requesting a GC issuance date

Hi @Nowrya,

How is everything? I remember you from our October 2016 K-1 thread because you had to wait longer than the most of us and how excruciating the wait was. Now, we are in the waiting limbo again...

Regarding citizenship eligibility. As @leymanai mentioned the clock starts ticking from the moment the I-485 petition is approved. That date will be on your wife's green card as an issue date. We, the spouses or US citizens, are eligible to apply for citizenship after 3 years of being legal permanent residents provided that we're still in married to the same US citizen through whom we obtained a green card. The rest of LPRs have to wait for 5 years before they become eligible for citizenship.

You can check the information on the USCIS website M-480.pdf

So... I don't think anyone will be exempt from interview. I know there were some theories about that... Interview waiver is in my opinion a pure luck! Haha

Anyways. Today I received an email that my interview scheduled. I have no idea when yet. Waiting for notice to arrive but what is bothering me is that I have employment based interview. I got my EAD last week! 😂 I have no job and waiting for SSN TO ARRIVE next week. I have no idea why it is employment based 🤷‍♀️

CONGRATULATIONS! So very happy for you. Also, it gives me some tiny little hope that my interview is coming. My PD date is June 30th. Don't worry about "employment-based" thing. I saw people have been getting this message regardless of what type of visa they are adjusting from. It's one of many glitches of USCIS site.

Yes, many of us are in the same boat. As of now, it takes 6-8 months to renew a work permit. Good news - it's absolutely free. Just fill out the I-765 (EAD)  and I-131 (AP) forms (make sure it's up-to-date), include your current EAD copy, front and back, a copy of I-485 acceptance notice, passport photos, 1145g form, and mail it to Chicago lockbox. There's no fee for a renewal with I-485 pending. As soon as you get a receipt of acceptance of your renewal application, your current EAD will be automatically extended up to 180 days.

It's advised to send a renewal application at least 3 months prior to EAD expiration date. However, I saw people sending it as early as 6 months in advance.

If you don't get your interview before July 6th, you must redo your medical, alas.

Thank you. I am quite relieved 😌. But also pretty nervous because like I was mentioning way above we almost have 0 joint documents. And my husband will not be able to attend interview because he will be on his TDY in Atlanta. Oh boy. I really have no idea what documents to bring.

Like @JSWHJSWH mentioned, EAD extention is completely free. So it's a good side. But also, don't send documents more than 3 months prior your expiration date. They will simply return your application back. I haven't seen any posts where applications like that were successful

Does this apply to AP as well in regards to it being automatically extended up to 180 days?

April 22, 2020 - I-751 sent

April 23, 2020 - I-751 received at Lockbox

April 29, 2020 - Check cashed
??? - didn’t receive text or email confirmation. Ugh!

I don't mean to argue, but I speak from real people's experience. There's a group for AOS filers in TX https://www.facebook.com/groups/1217794938343963/ I saw at least dozen people posted that they sent their application for EAD renewal well in advance and nobody's application was rejected because of that.
