There's a world of difference between the Deep South and the Southwest, and most people are moving there for the weather, not the culture (why all the Northerners cluster together.)

LOL...well, they can just go the hell home if all they want to do is occupy jobs; like I said, they can try their luck in the crumbling ghettoes of the North. I get sick to death of people moving to Texas then bitching about it. And if the Northerners want to stick together, that's fine with me; I wouldn't want to associate with someone so up their own a$$ that they wouldn't even condescend to speak to a Southerner. People with stuck-up attitudes like that are usually pretty lonely in the South, and my opinion is they deserve to be.

:innocent:

Personally, I think Northerners are jealous that the South is doing so well and the North is doing so poorly. They ought to be grateful that they're not stuck in Detroit or Scranton or some other rust belt hellhole scrounging around for whatever scraps are left, but they're not...they come down with 'tude about the 'culture'. I hate people like that. They're a waste of space.

Some people can make the adjustment and even really like it. My parents, for instance, came from New York and moved to Texas. Been here over three decades, and they (especially my Dad) loves it. Sure, it gets hot during the summer, but the winters more than make up for it -- where else can you drive around in a convertable with the top down during December? :P

As for the culture, well... there is a big difference between the "Deep South" and Texas. Texas is an entity of it's own, more or less. The "Deep South" is a collection of states that share an overall cultural bond. Personally, the area of the U.S. I find really annoying is the Northeast. The people there are, for the most part, very stuckup and difficult to deal with most of the time. I don't know why they feel so "high and mighty," but they do.

Oh well. It's not worth thinking about, really. I have better things to ponder...

There are a lot of them who do fit in and adjust. My parents' neighborhood is full of northern transplants, most of whom are just fine, i.e. they don't segregate themselves so they don't have to talk to the 'natives'. They have to be open-minded enough to TRY, though, and a lot of people aren't.

Wellllllllllll....yes and no. Texas doesn't really have one distinct culture; that's what makes it exciting. There's Dallas, then different sections of the burbs; I used to be able to tell if someone came from an eastern or northern suburb of Dallas just from the accent. There's Fort Worth...totally different. Austin and Houston and San Antonio...different still. East Texas is full of pine trees and the culture is closer to 'Deep South' than the plateaus and deserts of west Texas. Southern Texas is heavily Hispanic, and the panhandle has blizzards. There's lots of different Texases.

As for the northeast...I gotta agree with you there. My mom and her family are originally from Connecticut and I've been up there a few times. The people in my aunt's town are nice to us because they know who we are...but go outside of Middlesex County and you might as well look like you've just walked off the set of Hee-Haw. They treat Texans like poo on their heel.

Let me get this straight, they put a Canadian immigrant through this ###### yet make all of these rules and laws to protect the 'rights' of 'illegal' immigrants, who we all know are mainly of Mexican origin.. :bonk:

What sort of idiots are calling the shots in these states..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
