Ah so you mean to tell me the $535 money gram we shipped off with our petition today is just gone forever? Lol. Ahh wonderful.

I don't understand here. We couldn't get a check, his bank is military and there's no branch we could go to. We tried money orders and nowhere would do them over $500.

We were told hey go to walmart, they do money orders up to $1,000. We go there today and ask specifically for a money order, she says yes, prints it out, and we leave. We notice it's called a "money gram" but think nothing of it. Really hope this isn't going to be a problem haha

i sent a $535 MoneyGram from Walmart, and it was accepted. No worries. It is a money order.

People at USPS are often clueless. I usually have to use google the answer my own questions because when I ask the people working there they have no clue.

Some people* Many of my coworkers (both contractors and USPS employees) are only clueless half the time. :P Then again we work on nationwide IT projects, not in the post offices.

It's fine...the Walmart moneygrams are just a form of money order (as opposed to something like sending a pickup receipt for Western Union, which is not a money order). But even if they didn't take it, you wouldn't be out the money. They would have just sent your packet back and you could redeem/return the moneygram yourself.

Tell him to call his bank and order checks...you'll need them later on in the process too.  Branch or no branch.  Depending on the bank you can get them online or through an app also.

If the US is so behind, why do you want to be in the US?

The point is that if you are going to the US, you have to adapt to certain rules and regulations. In any event, let's not get into a discussion since that would be off the money order topic.

Case closed.

Thats what she does tho, she buys a check/moneyorder. It's just that it's oldschool. We are not allowed to say that?

But sure, case closed.

Because my husband is here. If I had the choice we would live in Sweden of course, but because of many reasons we can't do that just yet.

I dont think money orders and cheques are a thing of the past. They are a safe way to mail money. USA also does wire transfers etc but they cost alot internationally money orders and cheques are much cheaper and easy to cancel. Also it would be so disorganized if they had a bunch of incoming money prior to giving an account number too.    ..btw the walmart thing says "money order" right online i think you are okay i would not worry at all!

Haha .. not only me then. I also found it strange. Never ever used this paper thingy they write on. My dad used them when we were kids.

I particularly found it strange when I saw someone in Applebees pay for their meal with a cheque once. Never seen that in my life. Certain things in the US are definitely old school ;)
